Hi Everyone,
I know we have not made a big deal about this, but today is our 9th Anniversary of Witch School, since it came online, in it's current form. Tell us what you think.
Here is a statement from Rev. Donald Lewis
Today is the Ninth Anniversary of the founding of Witch School!! Witch
School was founded on September 4, 2001. Co-founders Ed Hubbard, Don
Lewis, and Lisa Tuit created Witch School as a response to the
tremendous success of the Daily Spell e-zine, which had been offering
the Correllian First Degree teachings. The school was initially run out
of Rev. Don’s kitchen. With its philosophy of an “Anyone, Anytime,
Anywhere online Pagan and Magickal education” the school grew rapidly,
filling a void created by the lack of accessible teachers. Witch School
was and is a revolutionary educational system utilizing peer-to-peer
teaching and the power of the Internet to bring Pagan religious and
magical education to people around the globe. The Witch School system
was able to reach people in remote geographical areas who were otherwise
unable to connect with teachers, and to provide training in an
extremely flexible and effective way. Today Witch School has students on
all seven of the Earth’s continents (yes, even Antarctica) and is the
most trafficked Pagan site in the world. We are very proud of our school
and its students and salute each and every one!
Witch School was deliberately debuted on September 4, because this is
Founding Day for the Correllian Tradition. Today is the birthday of Blv.
Orpheis Caroline High Correll, founder of the Correllian Tradition.
Orpheis Caroline was the daughter of William and Sarah High, and was
born at the High family compound in central Indiana in 1860. William,
Sarah, and their children moved to Danville, Illinois, in 1864. The High
family compound was destroyed in 1876, and many of the family members
killed or imprisoned, in what their descendants considered a racially
motivated incident. On September 4, 1879, Caroline founded a “new”
family, which would grow into the global Correllian family of today.
Caroline and her husband John Correll traveled widely and operated a
number of businesses over the years. For many years they operated a
carnival during the summer, and worked as “Art Lecturers” during the
winter using what was then cutting edge technology that was as much an
attraction as the art they exhibited. Caroline also worked as a psychic
reader, herbalist, and spiritual healer. Caroline was involved in the
Spiritualist Church as well as the Universalist Church and through Lydia
Becket became involved in Aradian Witchcraft –that is, an Americanized
form of Stregheria influenced by the works of Charles Leland. Caroline
High Correll died on August 25, 1939 at the age of 79.
