A Proposal to Have A Global Parliament for Wiccan Traditions

I am proposing that we have a Global Parliament of Wiccan Traditions.

The idea I have and I am willing to work on, is that we need to have a event that gives voice to our movement in a fairly open, democratic and self-representing way. This may help us in the long run. I am also suggesting this is 3.5 years away so we cna do our very best in hosting...what do you think?

A Global Parliament for Wiccan Traditions

May 23rd –26th, 2013
Host Cities: TBA

This is a call to Wiccans, who seek to develop their traditions to participate in a global interfaith community. By meeting together with representatives of independent Wiccan and Witch Traditions, we can find common ground to help each other with all manner of difficulties that we face.

At the Parliament of world’s Religions 2009, The Wiccan Community was not strongly represented, basically folded into the Pagan community, and was marked as Neo-Pagan practice. We did not have any direct panels dealing with our issues and very limited representation on any panels/discussions whatsoever. A large part of this is due to a lack of response from the Wiccan community itself, and not be directly involved in Interfaith efforts and a lack of purposeful activity. On goal of this Global parliament is to open a discussion that will allow us to be able to act strongly in 2014 Parliament of World’s religions.

This will be an event with a central coordinating host city, and we will have sister and satellite events in countries around the world. This will be coordinated so that we can have a global discussion, with leaders and representatives with traditions and groups from all six continents of our Mother Earth. Using the power of the Internet, we can have exchanges not just from the United States but from Wiccans and Witches world wide.

This is a wonderful idea. I am in Port Orange, Volusia County, Florida and would love to get involved. Also I can advertise on my site Task R Us. I will fwd this info to our local group (VCPP - Volusia County Pagan Pride) to see if they would like to be a part of this event.

Consider video conferencing or something of the like. As this would be a great way for locations such as mine to be connected and able to participate during the event.

Hi June,

I am definitely considering videoconferencing on a very large scale, and that is in part why I want to build it over a few years. I believe that we no longer have to travel to a single location to have a meaningful Interactive conference. I actually see Interactive features that allow us to speak with each other as well, as simply moving us visual/audio to another space.

I am also looking at a virtual worlds component as well.

Just keep me posted. I have sent out a feeler to the head of VCPP. If she does not want to assist, I would like to be a broadcast location for people who would like to attend at this location.

What a good idea! A great way to bring all interested people 'together' as we are a very wide spread group of followers.

Sounds like a great idea we as wiccans need to have more of a voice in the religous world. I live in South Carolina if there is any way I can help I would like to be apart of it.

It would absolutely be a teleconference system.....why the long lead time, is to assure we have more than teleconferencing, creating something with Telepresence.
