Witchcraft in the White House
Posted by Kristen Atkinson on Saturday, August 15, 2009 4:11:43 PM

The Obama White House is abuzz with talk of witchcraft by first grandmother, 72-year-old Marian Robinson, who lives in the White House residence. A close friend of Michelle Obama says the president is furious at his mother-in-law after learning that she was practicing Santeria, an African spirit cult, in the White House.

Ed's Note: Today's Blog Talk Radio is all about Witch Hunts and this is another piece that proves the point. The title links to the whole article.

Update: Thank You everyone....This story was spiked because so many people argued for proof. It is the beginning of the push back. I am grateful and thankful for this, and everyone who pushed on this.

From a strictly business and political point of view, regardless of his personal opinions on exercising our rights, with himself identifying with what is popular, and being involved in running what is still a country whose religious majority is Christian, it wouldn't be in his better interests to sit idly by and risk being associated with Santeria. That wouldn't sit well at all.

However, this hasn't exactly exploded so much that it seems to be a major issue. At least not on televised news, am I correct? Therefore I would assume nothing of it. Still, that's an interesting idea...
So many of the "old folk" grew up with practices around their homes that have passed down from one generation to the next. They never assigned title to those practices, it was just something you did, like root workings. It hasn't been until recent times that we have traced the origins of these practices back to their Hoodoo or Santeria roots.

If Grandma is practicing Santeria in the White House I seriously doubt she has an altar set up and and sacrificing chickens. She probably throws Drawing Powder (Powdered Sugar) out the backdoor of the White House every morning to bring good luck and positive energy to the household because that's what her Momma used to do. I know my Grandmother did it, my Mother does it, I do it, and my grown children do it. That doesn't make us devil worshippers, abusers of animal rights or any of the negative connotation associated with Santeria or Hoodoo, it's nothing more than "intent" or prayer made visible, however you want to look at it.

And now someone has seen her do it and is making an issue out of it. I'm also sure if the Prez is angry it's the Media's fault not Grannie's, she was just doing what she grew up with. Tolerance is the word of the day here.
This is great!!! the First Lady's mom is a practicing Pagan!!! Woot!!!!! Now if Paganism can come into the forefront and really get the acknowledgement that it truly deserves!!!!
This is a perfect opportunity for some pagan or interfaith organization (hmmm, witchschool?) to SUPPORT this woman instead of just leaving her out to be eaten alive by the media. If organizations stepped up to support her publicly, and say "hey, this woman is doing what is her RIGHT as a US citizen, and our President should support her, not condemn her.." then maybe we'd get more respect. But as long as we sit in our comfy homes and go "wow, sucks for her, I know what that feels like" we're going to keep getting the same...
The true definition of insanity - Doing the same thing multiple times and expecting different results....

"If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten..."
I guess we are by making a issue, and answering. regrettably we do not have the resources or the people to be able to act in a focused way. That is the difficulty, as a community, we can not except under great duress, work together. We can not even afford to do a single mailing with every congressman with our point of view. It's really a question of resources really.
