Ask The World Religious Leaders a Question, A Parliament of the World's Religions Project

What would you ask, if you could ask only one question to the Leaders of the Religious World, and they had to answer it? What would you want to know? The Parliament of the World's Religions is running a Global Question Project, where 20 questions will be asked and answered. They can come from anyone including you. So maybe you should consider asking the question that might be chosen.

The 2009 Parliament of the World’s Religions is about finding answers to the world’s most pressing problems. And with over 500 speakers and events, we’re addressing critical issues of global concern.

But we want to do more. We want to hear your voice. We want to know the questions you want to see raised at the Parliament.

So we’ve joined with dropping knowledge international to create a Global Question Campaign, and we're asking you to submit a question to the Parliament. Selected questions will be chosen to shape the Parliament agenda and be addressed at a panel by some of the most thoughtful leaders and thinkers of our time.

Submit your question now.

Because to find the right answers, you first must ask the right questions.

I think this is a question that should be asked and repeatedly! Even though in the U.S. there is the freedom of religion there are people that will STILL try to persecute you for your beliefs....

I agree with Dolma. But, because some Relgions consider themself as the "only path", I'm afraid that a massive tolerance should be dream for ever.

i would like to know how we as an caring and compassionate people allow the atrocities to continue in reguards to the children in african nations being tortured and mutilated in the name of religion, why do we chose to turn a blind eye, is it because the children are black, if this were happening on a daily basis to white children wouldnt something already be done about it????this comes from a caucasion male with 4 wonderful children who asks when is this gonna start happening to our children ??? food for thought

I would like to know why more and more people are allowed to suffer broken families and fall into poverty, when a majority of the countries have enough money to help them , but are too busy filling their own pockets to care. For instance a party who is supposed to represent the poverty stricken in my country say that the only way out of poverty is to send both parents out to work for as many hours a day to get themselves out of poverty,( at this point in time as there is no jobs i find this laughable ) but what about the children, think about not having your parents around, what this is going to do to you. We all wonder why there is so much gang culture and gun crime and anti-social behaviour. Think about it. There have been studies done and findings support that at least one parent needs to be at home as this will give the child stability and this then will help deter them from joining gangs. I would like to ask what can be done to save the family stucture, prevent crime caused by lack there of and help people in poverty ?

The only question I have is if all the major religions teach that to love one another, why is it that we all have a problum being together in this world. As fast as we are running out of space on the surface of this planet. Why are we fighting when together we could not only save the planet from the toxins we have created, but save one another from out mutual destruction we are assured becuse of our fighting. There will always be prople put there that will not understand or will not be able to be part of the whole. Those that do, those that will should do so now. Some thing as simple as religious differences should not be the reason for our continued secregation.

I think that if I had one question to ask it would have to be why do you spend all of your time, energy and money to point out the faults of every other religion? Just because you can prove one part of another's person's beliefs as wrong, that doesn't make your point as right. Right and wrong are points of view which change based on the time, place and cultural one is raised in. For example, 1000 years ago everyone "knew" the world was flat and 30 years ago everyone "knew" that the USSR and USA were going to fight WWIII and 10 years ago everyone "knew" that the world was going to come crashing down around us due to Y2K. It has been noted before and is worth saying again, what gets us into trouble is not what we don't know but what we know for a fact which just isn’t right.

Why can't the world stop with the wars and ruining the earth with blowing it up slowly with bombs,etc...and killings.Get rid of everything and keep the peace.Worry more about curing diseases and saving lives ,and our green forests..

Why can't we all achieve a lasting peace with anyone? Are we not all human? Isn't killing in the name of a religion an abomination in the eyes of any creator? Life is so precious yet we seem to get swallowed up in hatred. Our pack mentality is the scariest thing I have ever witnessed. We must all learn this earth is a gift and our time on it is being eaten away by our insensitivity, our unwillingness to accept, our desire to have power. When do we begin to live in peace?

Well, my question wouldn't be about why they cannot live with the concept of accepting both and all Religious commons are about...the problem is, that would be like asking countries to do their own thing too. We know today, not every country is willing to be wrong, by thinking another country is right. Iran is not going to stop just because their idea's are not the same as America's idea's.

What I would ask is why does religion have to lie, or hide the true facts? Most people don't even know whom the holy ghost is when they are asked. For those whom don't know, the answer is: YOU the SELF. A Lot of people don't even understand that Pagan has nothing to do with the devil and has everything to do with the Natural way of being. It was the most powerful spiritual/religion of it's day.

So, Why can't all the religions tell the truth of what the real stories are? Methodology.

In the short 39 years of my life I have seen and learned of much fighting and violence done in the name of various governments, faiths, and Deities. From the Crusades, to the Inqisition, Jihad, to the Burning Times, the theme is basically the same- Fear and Ignorance. Religious hatred and intolerance is gobal, and no faith escapes it. I have met people who think THEIR faith is the one true right way- and everyone else not of that particular faith system are all going to some form of hell or other, they are sinners, unclean,or whatever.Everyone wants their faith and opinion to be the "right" one.I was not raised in any faith system as a child, as an adult I went looking for my own answers. I became catholic as a young adult,and could not stand the hypocrisy and fighting in my own parish, and left. In my studies even from high school-(and there was not much for me to read in the 1980's in the middle of rural Ohio,) I remembered what I had learned and been unconsiously praticing all along- Wicca. Though I have seen that every faith has it's rather dubious praticioners, my own included, It may not be right for others, but it is the right faith for me, and I do not begrudge anyone for practicing a different faith than my own. It is not our place to judge others on the basis of their faith, and that is a precept of several faith systems, (yet it is done on a daily basis anyways.) As a Wiccan High Priestess, a Clergy member of my own faith I stress to my own coven members to learn everything they can about other faith systems- in fact, I require it.I believe that to teach about your own faith, you must have a clear understanding of it, and you need a clear understanding of the precepts of the other faith systems around you. Much of the religious intolerance and hate I see, has a direct relationship to ignorance- not knowing one's own faith's teachings,and not understanding others. Many problems dealing with a faith system have little or nothing to do with what Deity has put out to us, (it deals strictly with Man's interpretation of it.) What I want to know is this: What will the Parliament be doing to address this?
Ingorance leads to fear, fear leads to hate, which often leads to violence. This has been a problem for potentially thousands of years,yet we still have not managed to solve it.We cannot force our beliefs on others, but I believe a more concerted effort is needed to alleviate the lack of education between the faiths and their followers. Example: between Muslims, Christians, Wiccans,Jews, and yes, even Satanists- none of these faiths have blood sacrfice as part of the faith, yet many peoples of these various faiths seem to think the others do pratice just that type of stuff. Ignorance. Hollywood hype. Anyone understand what I'm getting at here? Let's help end the ignorance and fear. How will the Parliament address this issue, what will they do about it? I doubt it will ever be completely resolved, but I'd like to see more effort in that direction. In whatever faith you belong-Blesed Be.

I completely agree with this. Hate mostly stems from fear..and fear usually is a result of the unknown. So other than continuing to try to educate people and to lead by example (showing the world that hate is not needed ) what else can we do? Surely there must be something else we can do. So many are still persecuted , even killed because they are different in one way or another. What else would the leaders recommend? I don't think any of us think they can just fix things. or that they know all.. but if they can sit and talk and live with each other for 1 week, maybe they already have an insight the rest of us could use.I hope so..for the sake of all of us.
