Merry Meet
Jesus Christ, in christianity, has been portrayed as a person with extrodinary powers, which he is supposed to have used for the good of the people
Islam has recognised jesus, son of mary, as a prophet in their religion.
However Christianity has classified 'witches' as people with more powers than normal, used for evil purposes.
We in wicca do not accept the use of these powers for evil puropses. however we use the term 'witch', for people with more than normal powers. also we do not mind using Jesus as a personal diety.
enough and more discussions come for opinions, wether one can be a christian and witch/pagan
So my question
Can We Classify JESUS CHRST As A WITCH in the defintion we are using for a witch in Wicca
opinions please
Blessed be

it is fortunately not the christian or islamic views on jesus that is relavant in this forum.
it is how pagans, witches and wicca's view that is important
one of the reasons so many are talking about christian pagan is that, all that we talk about witches and metaphysical thoeries, have found roots in bible, but witches are not accepted.
however both islamic and christian view about jesus is the same as ours, HE IS NOT GOD. he can be son of god prophet or diety. since he was born as humanbeing, the best we can say is that he was a man with extrodinary metaphysical powers, and as per our concept, a witch.

You see, witchcraft is a magical sistem, but it's not the only one. Witchcraft is sorcery and mistisism: it is felt rather than thought, and it is at least in a degree passional, supersticious and handled by passive/lunar energies.
The other "polar opostie" of mistisism would be occultism. Occultism is thought rather than felt, and in some cases rejects feelings entirely in favor of reason. It's all about knowing the exact origins in a scientifical rather than a vivential way, and sticking to strict formulas for its works.
Jesus was however, neither. True mastery and enlightment comes when combining the best of the two i mentioned above and leave their drawbacks behind. People who get to this stage are often called "Adepts" and are damn something. Few people manage to reach it, and thouse who do often become enlightened. Jesus was an enlightened being: he was a master among the adepts. He was way above witchcraft, way above.

it is a very profound opinon expressed with deep understanding of the concept.
jesus was one of those who was enlightened and was way above all these 'isms'.
however on day to day life we catogrise any one with occult powers names that people around us understand.
(remember reading in a book a phrase - sequential temporary circuit tripping and restorement- or something to that effect completely baffled people untill it was renamed rolling blackouts)
where i comefrom, untill harry potter came around, term witch was never understood properly.
eventhogh my religion is pagan people of my religion have serious objection to bein called pagans as it is derogatory in english.
jesus was not god this everybody understands as he was born to mother mary.
so we are looking for best term to describe him. so i have put up this post
blessed be
Permalink Reply by John Thomas on November 22, 2011 at 10:36am Yet, do you know who the historical people were that Jesus is based on?
Start with that question.
I have found that Jesus was a guy named Apollonius.
He went to Taxila, India and brought back the teachings of Krishna.
He found the Nasaraean religion.
Jesus wasn't a name back then. It was a word that meant 'savior'.
He traveled with Emperor Titus and established Mythras (Proto-Christian) churches.
Because he was a Neo-Pythagorian, he was an elementalist Sun worshiper.
He is known as the Pagan Christ.
He was actually the historical Jesus Christ.
Permalink Reply by Drakill Tannan on November 22, 2011 at 1:53pm Likely, from what i gather, Jesus learned with many, many masters and traveled arround the world a lot. But in any case you'll notice his masters weren't witches. They were ocultists at worst.

In my humble opinion, I don't think that Jesus can be classified as a witch acording to the Christian practices and principles. According to this teaching as I understand it, Jesus had no power of his own until after his resurrection. The power Jesus possessed while living, was solely the power of God working through him. Thus, the universe was never in a position of denying him any command. I cannot remember reading about any account of a failed miracle or a command that didn't work out quite as he expected.
Wiches on the other hand, according to that same teaching, do not ascribe the totality of thir powers to God, but retain a sense of possessing the power or it is said to come from dark entiies or spirits. Therefore, it is possible for the universe to be unsupportive of a spell or incantation if is not meant to be or to execute it in some unexpected way. Thus, when you compare the two teachings regarding how those extraordinary commands/spells are manifested, the difference becomes clear. In one case, the universe has the ultimate control over how and whether a spell is executed and in the other Jesus was. The reason I believe that Jesus cannot necessarily be classified as a witch per se is because he did not practice a craft in the same way, using the same ancient practices and rituals that have been handed down generation after generation. But certainly, I can understand why you might see the "miricles" that Jesus performed as just another interpretation of spells that have been derived from witchcraft or divination. I can only say that according to my understanding of both religions, which really isn't very extensive because I'm new here, spells would be more akin to the Christian prayer than they are to Jesus' "miracles". It is during this practice, the Christian submits their petitions to a higher power while being fully aware that they might not be answered in the way they were expected to be or even at all. Blessed Be.
Permalink Reply by Rachael Sue Rubin on November 22, 2011 at 4:58pm I have always classified and believed Jesus was a witch. He could heal, he preached love, he did not have a church, he would sit down and preach wherever he was. Thirteen at the last supper, hmm, sounds like a coven.
You have to realize that parts of the bible were left out, rewrote by men in power at the time, etc. I think even Jesus would be disappointed by how the christian church is run, and what was wrote about, him, taken out, changed, by whoever was in power at the time.
Just an opinion.
Permalink Reply by Amberhawk on November 22, 2011 at 7:33pm You also have to realize for as much as what was left out, other things were written in. I would classify him as a Jewish Mystic over anything else. Mysticism crosses systems and I think that's the common strand some might see in stories of Jesus and his possible witchiness.

spells meditaation prayers et al is the same thing. we train our minds, to cross physical realams to achieve what people who dont do this achive.
i am a hindu and for my religion, magic is always black magic, i.e tantra. we use the trminology of mantra, sloka, meditation et al to classify white magic.
in this discussion i have posted i have clearly asked on terminology and classification by witches in wicca, and not what are witches in christianity.
witches in wicca do not call upon dark lords as a rule. so i think christian views on witches are not synonymous with our views
also jesus learnt his teachings and crafts from ancient masters when he travelled. that is the reasoning by which i say that jesus was a witch as we know in wicca.

Permalink Reply by Phoenix Rising on November 22, 2011 at 7:00pm I don't believe we can classify Jesus as a 'witch', according to the Wiccan definition of the term. My belief is that this is because He is already classed as a Deity, part of the Triple-godhead of Christianity,- the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Everything that we would class as 'supra-normal powers' which He displayed are prerogatives of a Deity. We can choose not to acknowledge his Divinity, but our knowledge of him is presented through the Holy Book of a religion which Wiccans very seldom acknowledge as our own.
Was Krishna a Witch? The question is the same, with the referent points being the same~

krishna is an avtar of god or otherwise manifestation.
here we are talking about a boy who performed miracles from the day he was born. so he was worshipped even when he was growing up.
other than 3 kings episode there is hardly a record of jesus having power by which he performed miracles, as a child.
jesus travelled widely, bringing with him teachings of other religions, and thus realized the power of magic. all of us know that this power can be begotten had and devoloped. another example of a humanbeing who devoloped is siddartha
But krishna did not require this power to be devoloped. it was devoloped fully at his birth. also after the great war ended, krishna's power diminished as god's work was acomplished. so he is to be classified as god before the end of war and diety/witch thereafter
in hindu mythology, avtar of god ends even though the creature lives on when the work is acomplished, eg, Ram, Parasuram, krishna, Waman, narashima etc
blessed be
