Ok.  Here's what happened....  I have known this guy for about a year (as a passer-by friend)-  We shall call this guy... "Chris."  Chris is not his real name, nor would I use it.  I am at my college campus, waiting for choir to start, and I see Chris waiting to go to band.  I noticed that he was wearing an upside-down pentagram and asked him why.  He showed me a business card and it said "Church of Satan."  He told me to look it up....I did....and cleansed my computer as soon as I was done.  I DO NOT agree with his choice of beliefs.  I usually don't judge people but in this case I feel I must.  Chris was kicked out of a band (rock) I was in for hitting on the lead guitarist's girlfriend.  He is creepy in a smarmy kind of way and always has been.  He reminds me of Gollum from "Lord of the Rings."  As we were talking today, I quickly understood that he was trying to scare me and recruit me at the same time.  I swear...the weirdest crap always happens to me.  My question is....Am I judging this person too harshly? I don't want to be around him now.  Especially now that I know why he is creepy.  Satan worship goes a long, long, long way to prove someone's "creepiness" level.  I am not of the "left handed" path, nor will I ever be.  Some knowledge, wisdom, and advice would be great here.   Blessed Be Everyone!!!   *Mara

Hey Mara! Obviously this is not your type of friend! It sounds like you thought him to be the creepy kind before you found out about his religion- so I don’t think you are judging him to harshly. That belief system is on the other side of ours and no one could blame you for not wanting to hear it! Tolerance for religion is so important in our world today- Satanism...yes a religion... is no different. I would not encourage you to avoid him entirely because of this. I have studied several religions and like most-this ones is not ALL bad- but do know that very dark magick is used by some of these followers!
Remember that you are always allowed to listen to your spirit and your deity. Follow your witchy instincts and you will know exactly how to present yourself to this individual.
People who follow this path are very intrigued and drawn to people of our faith. I would steer clear, listen to your spirit and send him positive light. Always protect yourself in love and light!

Blessed Be sister!
Thank you!
I would say stay away from him and no you are not judging too harshly. If your gut says he's creepy, dangerous, or whatever follow it. Your gut feelings will never lead you wrong!

Thank you!
This is just the problem isn't it? I knew that then. I believe he did this just for shock value. I will reflect upon what you have said. He was & is creepy. I agree that no one should judge based upon religion alone. I knew him well before this. I am just being honest with myself and with the situation. He has shown from prior issues that he and I don't stand on the same side of the moral compass. I, in no way, have any urge to change him. Everyone has the right to stand for their beliefs. I need to meditate on this one.
Thank you!
Mara you need to Ground, Cleanse, Shield.....and stay away if you must. I have read Anton LaVey's work (just for fun in my teenage years) and some of it is okay, but mostly for self gain. Some of the standards he created for the church are respectful to others, but mostly not. There are some Satanists that aren't too bad, but some join the religion for self gain, a way to be allowed to be "creepy" and other dark reasons. And remember, Satanism is a direct descendent of the Christian church and we don't even believe in Satan, so don't let that part scare you. If we don't believe in it, it cant attack us, because it doesn't even exist. Thats not to say one couldn't send out a ball of something negative and blast you with, but Ground, Cleanse, Shield and you will be fine. Let him be who he is.....its his path and he has every right to his path.....Also, see if someone can assist you with an invisibility spell. I did one once when me and a neighbor were at odds.....we passed each other daily on the street. When the fight was over, she said "where have you been, I haven't seen you around in like three weeks" I chuckled inside. It does work. Anyhow, dont be too worried.....just go on with your business and he will soon find you don't want to feed into his toying......Blessings to you, kimmy
Thank you Kimber-poo. That is your official nickname from me to you. This is exactly why I bring my questions to the discussion board. I needed some input and look what happens. Wonderful advice and knowledge every where. Thanks again!! *Mara
I like my nickname Mara.....It fits....
Church of satan means Anton La vey. Don't worry, it's not too bad. LaVeyan Satanists are agnostics or atheists, and bear the standart of "satan" only as a symbol of rebeldy, they consider it an admirable literary figure that represents freedom and intelligence ( i happen to agree there ), but don't belive in satan as a real entity. Rather, a force of nature.

They are warlocks, don't practice high magic, but are not wise to be called witches. Mostly, LaVeyan satanism is about using magic for self gain, retaded self gain i might add: power, money, influence, sex... not spritual elnightment. Although i'm told they have a moral code that discurages harming others, i don't buy it. From what i read, while they don't encourage harming others, in their moral sistem it's fine if they do, doesn't matter as long as they gain something.

This means that as long as you don't get in trobule with him, you'll be fine. Keep an eye on him and don't be paranoid. That he is a satanist doesn't make him a bad person, and he might be totally harmless. Or he might be dangerous. All in all, do what you prefer, i think it owuld be intresting to have a satanist friend myself.
Thank you so much for your intelligent response to a touchy subject. You sound pretty familiar with the subject. He is easy to make angry, as seen in the band we were in. Thank you so much for enlightening me on the subject. I will ask if they have a moral code that prevents them from harming others....and I will get back with you. I was raised Catholic, so some of the knee-jerk reactions I have are from living that path for so long. I just thought that it bordered on "showing off." I will continue the friendship and ask questions, as I am VERY curious as to what "exactly" he thinks it is that he is practicing. You are right....there is an opportunity to learn and be a good Wiccan. To practice what I preach. On another (more careful) note...is there something small that I can carry to protect myself somewhat from bad witchery? or warlock-ery? :) You have helped someone solve a problem this full moon. May goodness from the Mother find you by the next full moon. Good energy and tidings! Blessed Be *Mara
Most Satanists see (as was mentioned before) Satan as an idea. An archetype of an independent mind, and also as a suffering hero (believe it or not). Think about it: The serpent (in the Bible, book of Genesis) risks everything to bring the gift of knowledge to mankind. He pays for it by being cursed for eternity. Think of Prometheus chained to a rock, having his liver forever eaten out for bringing to mankind the gift of fire, and you'll see how Satan is idealized.

Nope, as a religion they are no worse than any other.

Just remember: if anyone, no matter what faith is creeping you out, it probably isn't their faith that's the problem. Please, trust your intuition!

Blessed Be, Sister :)
