On Saturday, retired police officer Donald “Don” Rimer, 65, died from complications arising from a stroke. Rimer graduated from police academy top of his class. He served the Virginia Beach police department for 34 years during which he received the department’s medal of merit and was inducted into the city’s hall of fame. He was also an active member of his Methodist church as well as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. However, what Rimer will most be remembered for is his career as an expert on so-called “occult crime.”... [article continued at link above]

Now, remember, Mike Warnke is still out there ;)
BB, and thanks for the post.

What is sad that some people need told BY leadership to not take joy in another human being's passing.
There really is no leadership in Wicca and Paganism, just those who set themselves up to be.
We believe in no authoritarian leadership, remember?
I hope he has gone to his heaven and is in peace. blessed be

Absolutely, yet we all have those we look to for guidance: mentors, priests and priestesses, counselors etc . . . Perhaps a better choice of words is in order? LOL! And yes, it is a shame that some of us have to be told such a thing. The rule of 3 has a way of spoiling such "negative joy".
Blessings, and I too hope he is in the place he wishes to be.

Permalink Reply by Rachael Sue Rubin on January 25, 2012 at 8:09pm I see what you are saying, but the whole point of being a Solitaire is not needing a mediary between you and god, if you need guidance you should be asking the god and goddess for guidance.
I just don't feel the need for mentors, priests and priestesses, why is their truth any more relevant than my own. Who says they are correct in what they tell others? I do not feel the need for anyone's validation in this lifetime. My beliefs are my own, and until proven wrong by the universe or god they are unshakable to me. I find the best advice is found within, as people tend to put their own agenda and feelings into advice or guidance they give others.
Arrogant? probably, but i can live with that.
I find it disappointing when people will not listen to their inner voice or spirit guides or higher self, and feel the need for someone else's advice, as if their own isn't good enough. But this discussion is better for another thread.

Permalink Reply by Rachael Sue Rubin on January 26, 2012 at 7:12am Maybe you two need told when to be respectful?
Permalink Reply by Laramie Roush on January 26, 2012 at 7:33am Rachael, Mike Warnke is the man who, more than any other, prompted the "Satanic Panic" back in the 80's. Warnke claimed that he was a former Satanic HP, claimed that he held a doctrate in Divinity (he didn't), and like Don Rimer led police on wild goose chases for money. His claims about himself were outrageous and false. This was proven. He implied that all witches (that would include us) were involved in ritual sacrifice and needed to be investigated . . . just because of our religion. And the Christian community bought into this, as did many local law enforcement agencies.
While I respect him as a fellow human being and creation/manifestation of the Goddess, I have NO respect for his work. No harm was intended.
Permalink Reply by Rachael Sue Rubin on January 26, 2012 at 8:18am But after someone dies, is not the time to crack jokes, it was established in the beginning of the thread, that this was not the time to voice your personal opinions on the man.
Maybe start another thread on what you did'nt like about him?
And yes i was alive (i am 43) during the 80's satanic panic, and remember everything.
And still I feel no ill will towards this man, i believe everyone has a right to their opinions and beliefs, and in the society we live in, since christianity is predominant, it should be expected on how people think and treat us.
And i do not have any problem with anyone (including the police) questioning me on my religion, their is nothing to hide, nothing to be ashamed of, no satanic crap going on.
I have no respect for the muslim religion, does that mean when a muslim dies i will crack jokes on his belief system? Hardly.
Remeber what your grandma told you, "Don't speak ill of the dead, it is bad manners."
Permalink Reply by Laramie Roush on January 26, 2012 at 8:26am Rachael,
