I think we all know by now just what drugs do to the mind and body. Witchcraft takes a certain amount of self control and clear emotional and mental balance as well as a relatively healthy body for the strength needed. Think hard about how tired and drained we sometimes get after a serious ritual, and then ask if that should be added to by indulging in recreational drugs.

The other thing is, if we are involved in the degree system and have taken on the responsibilties of clergy, then we live by example. We may be individuals but we do stand as a representative of the religion we claim to practice. This would be intirely personal in how we each wish the world to view Wicca specifically and paganism and witchcraft in general.

On either count, the main idea is do we wish to be recognized as a religion to be taken seriously and seen as a good thing or do we wish to support the idea that currently runs that most of us are flakes and drug abussers? I personally wont use drugs at all. Each of us has that choice and has to live with the consequinces (good and bad) of those actions.

My own opinion is it should be used medically if it helps. Recreationally it shouldn't be needed regardless, and spiritually speaking any kind of medicinal aid should be used sparingly for the ritual it's attributed to. This is basic good sense even if it is a free choice for everyone.
My personal oppinon on Cannabis is it is good medication and does help lots of people. Now to be a stoned out druggy is on thing.

Since I moved out of Colorado I am no longer a patient there.

There is a big difference in medication and all out abusing drugs.

I promote the medication idea of Cannabis but I see it as a need for some illnesses. People who deal with Chronic pain, MS, Cancers and termanally ill patients can benefit from the use.
But can also see that people will abuse anything even food. If a life can be helped with this then by all means go to your doctor and discuss it. Its not for everyone and doesn't work for all.

My own doctor says when its legalized in this state he will recommend his patients to consume this. Of course he can't now or he would be in serous trouble.
And I agree , people can " Abuse " anything even the us. but as stated ; it is our ability to know our own limitations, and take responsibility as a person. we all see where the road to abuse leads, so I would think that a common since, factor lies here " unto thy own ' self ' be true". BB
I have abused marijuana as a drug and i didn't like it of course. I was so high that i was in a really bad situation. I didn't even know my name and where i was. And to make matters worse i also drunk a lot of alcohol. Regret for my actions. But when i use it once every one or two weeks for example and a little bit of couse, i feel great. I totally agree that all things can be abused and cause us serius problems. And as for the marijuana it depends on the person..it always exagurates what we already feel. If only we are balanced as persons we can enjoy its benefits. Otherwise it causes only problems.
As a chronic pain sufferer, I'd give just about anything to be able to use marijuana. I'm not going to lie. But I have never and would never be impaired before a ritual. I also am involved in a paranormal investigation team. I have never and will never be impaired before an investigation. I think that, as with everything else, you have to use good judgment with the use of marijuana and any other illegal (in my state, marijuana is an illegal substance) drug. Additionally, I think you also have to use good judgment depending on what you're doing. I wouldn't drink and drive, toke and drive, take my pain meds and drive, etc.

Given that, I have to say I probably wouldn't consider using marijuana with ritual UNLESS there was a ritual that specifically called for its use. What kind of ritual I can't imagine at the moment, but I suppose there probably are some that it might be useful for. However, that said, so long as it's illegal, this is a moot conversation for me.

I share a lot of the concerns about it that people like Angellus and Amberhawk stated. Besides the legality, you have safety to consider, plus how we may appear to others. I do my best to make sure that I portray myself in the best light at all times, no matter who or what I'm trying to represent. I'm always myself, but if my religion comes up in conversation I do want to be sure that I've already laid the groundwork for a good impression, because most people down here (I'm in the Bible Belt) look down on us. I'd never do anything to sacrifice that good impression!

Just a few of my own thoughts. I couldn't help but join in. My family is against marijuana becoming legal for medicinal use, and I just hate that no one can understand how painful I am some days, despite being on a relatively decent pain management plan. They seem to think that if I'm in pain, I just need to get out and exercise or do this, do that, and I'll be all better. It's just not that way when you've got as many chronic painful conditions as I do...

Anyway, back to the topic...

Hugs and BB,
jen :)
I hear your pain & fell it.. Nobody really knows the damage pain and suffering it for long hours can do not only to the physical aspect of you but also your spiritual and every fiber of your being.
I am really sorry about your pain :((( I know that i can't understand it and no one who doesn't go though it, will. But i wish you health and hapiness with all my heart.

Blessed be.
I ran for political office in 2002 and one of my main issues was to end the war on drugs entirely .
No prohibition of this kind has ever worked or even had an effect to the positive do the home work take 10 years to research this issue I will be proven right every time it.

Liberty is the quiet answer that the tyrants of the world do not want you to hear.
And yes,of course weed can help with ritual the problem usually is that we have become to USED to it as a party drug and not as a spiritual enhancer as was the Goddesses intention.

Larry is 100 percent right on this one.

And Remember that they are always building jails it is a booming industry and a sad bit of reflective commentary , an international disgrace to our republic.

Some were along the line Americans decided to trade a belief in Liberty and in proper education for a false promise of safety and we are and have been suffering the repercussions of this.

Again like so many issues this one is ancient and natural, it is no different than it has been in ancient times just with new technologies.

It is better to learn Magic without it(Weed). But I as well do agree that in small non addictive doses it can be useful and so does Scott Cunningham.
I personally do not use it. (I would admit if I did , I have been as I stated a political candidate and openly admitted it before). Yours in Liberty: Sparrow (Daniel Michael, Candidate house of delegates 2002, Natural Law Party District F)
I am someone who enjoys life and enjoys a nice glass of wine or a good dark or Hoppy, beer and I did want to make very clear that one should practice magic naturally especially if you are new you do not want to become Dependant on "Enhancers" you should be able to access altered states with Sober natural practice , in fact it FEELS GOOD AND Becoming an experienced Lucid Dreamer/Flyer,Astral projector is better than any "High" I have experienced.

Blessed Be
