Anyone else ever watch the movie Devil's Advocate, with Al Pacino? A very interesting 'good vs evil' presentation! The subtle referents to the 'Cosmic Struggle' has a Christian mythos but an interesting take on the whole idea~~ I had lots of thoughts of Loki...

Permalink Reply by Phoenix Rising on January 21, 2012 at 6:09pm *giggle* Still - he DID make a great deal of sense when he was expounding to the kid about how God judges Man, and how HE helps Man~~ "I'm a FAN of MAN!" It reminded me of all of the Gods like Prometheus who helped Man, and were punished by their Overlord God for doing so~~ there were echoes of Job from the Bible in there, too, towards the end~~
I was always far more fascinated with the Devil than I was with God - 'Hell' and 'Heaven' were never very 'real' to me, no matter HOW old I was when i was trying so hard to be a 'good Christian' - LOL!! The people who were having fun were all going to Hell, so why would I want to go to Heaven, where I wouldn't know anyone???
Permalink Reply by Rachael Sue Rubin on January 21, 2012 at 6:59pm Lucifer is a latin word meaning “light-bearer”. Some people refer to Lucifer as the evil devil, the opposer of the good Christian God. However, Lucifer can mean ‘to live’(evil spelled backwards is live), because to be a light-bearer is to be a mind-bearer. So any mind is a sin in league with Lucifer. Every electron that becomes mindfully percieved is a sin. From this point of view, God(opposite of Lucifer) means mindlessness; dreamless sleep; death(not after-life); the unknowable; freedom; pure peace; nothingness; the unaccountable infinity(the “oo” in “good” God is the sign of infinity–a sideways 8).
Light includes electromagnetism and all the forms of the worlds: life and after-life, after-life; the psycles of Samsara(continuous reincarnations; waking and re-awakening) that some Hindus refer to. IF Lucifer represents Samsara, than God represents Liberation and Nirvana. God represents the open, “free” part of freewill, yet Lucifer represents the closed “will” part.
Lucifer represents conditional(somethingness) love, yet God represents UN-conditional(nothingness) love.
Forgiveness for our sin(light; mindfulness; forms) is natural, and always has been–even before the historical Jesus “died for our sins”.
Forgiveness for our sin means God–THE Open Mind(THE Formless)–always forgives(allows) Lucifer(forms) to cycle/psycle through. God is the formless observING that forgives/allows the observED forms(Lucifer).
So we are suppose to ask forgiveness for being able to think? Whatever, I am a fan of man too>
Permalink Reply by Phoenix Rising on January 21, 2012 at 7:29pm I like the way you think, Rachael! I never did get an answer to why, if God is Omni-everything, and He Created all, there IS a Devil! Obviously He Created the Devil, too, if He Created everything~ If God is All-knowing, then how did there come to be a rebellion in Heaven? If He desires us to freely CHOOSE to follow Him, (Free Will), then why does He threaten with the Eternal Fires of Hell if we don't choose to do so? Doesn't make sense to me~~
If He doesn't have a sense of humor, then why Create the platypus - with fur, a Duck's bill, webbed feet, laying eggs, but suckling the young, and with a poison spine on it's back leg?? A little too much new wine, like Noah???? LOL!

Permalink Reply by Sparrow on January 23, 2012 at 12:57pm I saw in a store a Movie that was a "Horror Film" I forget the name of it.
But on the back cover it had a "Scary" Pentacle and at each point of the star was a severed human head.
I told the person behind the counter in a light hearted fashion "You know this scary, scary symbol means the four elements and spirit"
The guy behind the counter laughed and said "Yes I know," he was Hindu.
Just thought it was funny how Hollywood portrays the Pentacle sometimes.
Permalink Reply by Phoenix Rising on January 23, 2012 at 1:54pm ROTFL!! Sparrow, Sparrow!! Rarely does Hollywood do anything BUT demonize non-Christian concepts! Where else would the 'shock value' of the horror films come from?? Films like the Exorcist get their viewers from the desecration of Christian symbols!! And the OMEN series is even more 'out there' about the symbolisms~~
I think the horror genre is interesting in what it includes, actually. The whole idea of different religions and their symbols being so threatening that they must be distorted and 'demonized' opens a very scary window into the way humanity can be manipulated... The Wicker Man is another good example, BTW.
Blood and guts only gets so far, after all, before a natural 'Ho-Hum' reaction sets in.
Permalink Reply by Sparrow on January 24, 2012 at 12:18am Your right about how Horror Films are , sometimes they are suspenseful and engaging and other times they are in my opinion just Gory , inaccurate, uninteresting trash.
But some films Loosely classified as horror can be very interesting and thought provoking, but so many are just shock value.
I have never seen the Wicker man.
Permalink Reply by Phoenix Rising on January 24, 2012 at 12:53am That's one you should make a point of seeing~ I think you would find it very though provoking... that said, it does make one wonder about any actual veracity in the plot. And no, I'm NOT going to tell you about it - LOL!! I despise it when someone spoils a movie for me by doing that! LOL!!
Permalink Reply by Rachael Sue Rubin on January 24, 2012 at 5:43am The wickerman is a good movie and does make you think about things, enough said before i spoil the movie for you, :)
