HELP! What is Deity?

Deity = God/dess

A higher power. The most simple example would be of the Christian God form.

You also have pantheons (A cultures group of gods instead of a singular god). I.e. Greek - Zues, Hermes, Artemis, etc.

Hi Hannah,

I can understand why you are having trouble, given the language barrier. The first response is perfect. But if the First Degree program is your intro to WSI, I'd suggest you start a little more slowly and enroll in the Living the Wiccan Life course. I'm sure you don't want to feel like you're going backward, but if you are having a hard time understanding Deity, that course would really help give you a great foundation--basically what you need to really get your foot in the door to understanding where you're going. It's really the first course I usually recommend for first-time students, so they can get behind all the concepts of what it means to be a WSI student, and where their learning will begin, and where it can go. There is no limit to where you can go with this school, and you can learn so much! But you have to start small and build up. You also have so much time ahead of you, so don't feel the need to learn it all at once.

A Deity is usually refered to as a God of some sort.

Hello Im Linda and would like to tell you who some dieties are dieties like Isis or even another like Zeus (have you heard of him) After you feel calmer,then try an re-read again.your chapter etc.I feel that you need to exercise your mind by reading your 1st degree lesson-Like anything else it needs exercise
Do it as long as you need to. read an re-read it for as long as you need before a test.
Witch school has small ways to help. I believe they have a glossery an library of sorts. I have not browsed eather,Im sure I have spotted them.
Another I just thought of,I cannot validate them because I have not tried them,but if you type in ask.com I beleve you can ask a ques. Who is Isis? you might want to add goddess Isis. All of this Im suggesting to you because my sister had pblms and as far as I know has not been back to her study. I might get on to her about this.

Mentors start out the same way you are now doing,they had mentors. You need never try an figure out the mind of your mentor. My sister was good for that (my twin) You should most definately ask your mentor for advice and at the same time take an hour or so and look up any diety in your study book or access them etc. on ask.com

You most definately need space--any size you feel good with to use as your altar. Just to call it your own. Im serious,it can be a box that you painted your favourite colour-If you have cone incense an a few candles place them on top. What?? Its not pretty enough.....Well,over time you will make it really yours,after you have achieved your future in Wicca. If you do not need my advice,that is quite all right. Im the one who chose to offer it..
Do something else that is required of mentors ASK she/he might be older,younger,etc. that is not vip.
You need to ask "Help me to please understand diety" Just because they are a mentor does not have them without fault-Most will help you when they are free.Im sure if you ask they would feel happy to answer you or to advise you where to find differant stories or history. Brian an Jennifer as well as myself are giving you advice based on our knowledge. I now just remembered MY mentor is part of this group. I will not answer for her BUT she is a very special person whom I have come to adore so much more now.It takes time to know your mentor (I was psychically brought to her) that is not how the normal mentor/student usually hapens. I believe,yet Im not positive that you can choose your mentor if you have not been assigned one. They would not be a mentor if they chose not to. You will Im sure look back on diety and be answering the same ques. someday. Relaxing,even something we do all the time,taking a relaxing time in quiet can give you energy to go on.
I know of the book Jenniffer spoke of. It was a gift to me,I never opened it until recently. It is really an easy to understand book,you can't seem to wait until you get to the next chapter. You might treasure it as much as I do if you choose to buy it now or down the line. If you cannot afford it try amazon.com .

Thank you all for explaining Deity to me too. I just breezed over the word not really caring what it meant. I thought it meant like a coven or something, but now I am pleased to know it is not. That is a very important word I will now be putting in the dictionary in my head.

How do I find the Living the Wiccan Life course. I looked for it, but can't find it. I'm taking the free classes at this point, so I'm not sure if that has something to do with it.

Um if you go to the Course Catalogue, it should be under the Wicca Section and in the Correllian Section.... I think?

Yes, I think the first response sums it up well. If you're coming here from a Christian background, the Supreme Deity is God, with personal deities being like archangels.
We call on personal deities a lot because it's impossible for the human mind to fully grasp the concept of Supreme Deity.

i just had the same problem and i asked my sister and she told me that basicly a deity is a god or godess or in other words a higher power.

A deity is a postulated preternatural or supernatural immortal being, who may be thought of as holy, divine, or sacred, held in high regard, and respected by believers.

Deities are depicted in a variety of forms, but are frequently expressed as having human or animal form. . They are usually immortal, and are commonly assumed to have personalities and to possess consciousness, intellects, desires, and emotions similar to those of humans.
