Snail Mail and Pen Pals

Lately I've had a lot of time on my hands to think (thanks to being laid off) and I thought about how when I was a kid we didn't use the compter or email like we do now. We had pen pals and we would buy special stationery and then sit down at our desks or our kitchen tables and we would take the time to write out a letter. We'd add our own personal touches to the letter. I find with email we don't have that personal touch. Am I the only one who feels this way? Am I the only one who wishes we still had penpals? I'd like to feel again the feeling of joy and antisipation that you got when you went to your mailbox and saw the envelope with the return address of your penpal. It was a great feeling and I'd give anything to feel it again.

I couldn't agree more! There was something so exciting and personal about getting and receiving penpal mail! Email me through my page and I'd be happy to be your penpal!

Hmmm... good point

You could start a penpal group... where people can connect with pagan pen pals. It would be a fun way to connect... send personal musings to another person.

The internet can be incredibly useful, but it can also be impersonal... I like the old way too! I also like the new way...

If you started a group, I would join it! Wink*

I think that is a wonderful idea also, I've often thought the same...I'd like to use my own ink and quill too! would be wonderful fun!

When I was a kid I had a pen-pal in Germany. Every letter thrilled me. I felt connected to her through looking at her own handwriting and little drawings on the paper.

Years later when I went to Germany in the US Army I remembered her, but could never find her.

I love the idea too! I so miss getting those personal letters in the mail, seems the only thing you get now is bills and junk. The sad thing is I have all these wonderful cards, stamps and things to make beautiful personalized letters and cards - it would be fun to actually use the stuff and write to people.

I am game for a pen pal. Message me!

Funny you should mention starting a penpal group, because a few months back I had thought about doing just that. I think I would enjoy it quite a bit. So I think I'm going to do that. So I will work everything out and let you guys know the details.

Well count me in! Where should we post our mailing addy? Somewhere in the group or private message to those whom we want to penpal with? Im kinda new to this, but loveeeeeeeeee the idea of it that you've started! How delightful to get anything but a bill or junk mail! ahhahahahaha Wow im excited! ahhahahahah really though, i am... :)

I've just joined the forum today and this is my very first post but I would love a penpal. I too grew up before the Internet and even 10 years ago I wrote and received beautiful caring letters. I'd love to be part of this.
