I was raised in a home with a Southern Baptist mother and a Jehovah's Witness father. It's always been hard for me to be who I truly am in my home. Once I was 18 and out of the house I was able to move along a little more freely in my beliefs. I've had my own place a couple of times but always had to work day and night to support myself. Now I'm married and I have a husband who can help cut my working time in half. I've found this extremely relieving and I've been able to take a lot of time to myself and a lot of time to devote to my beliefs. I've been pagan since I was 12 years old (I'm now going to be 24 in 3 days), yet I've never been on a spirit quest and I've never found my spirit guide.

I'm going with a friend at the end of September to do just that. We will be spending a week in tents, around a fire, out in the middle of the Mark Twain National Forest. We're super excited about it and we're almost completely prepared, however, I'm still not certain about how it will work or what we should do. If anyone has any advice or any suggestions please feel free to fill me in. I could use all the help I can get :)

Sounds great - I'd like to try going on a spirit quest when I'm older, it's a Shamanic tradition unless I'm mistaken. Have fun :)
Definately don't take any electronics. Although, if you feel that you can work with it, then by all means. Music always helps me get into the mood. Wear loose clothes. Leave all time peices at home!!! Time is of no consiquence. Relax!!! Enjoy!!!
Blessed Be

It is indeed a Shamanic tradition, one that is wonderful for finding what you are looking for. FIRE is a wonderful medium to focus - just staring into it... HOWEVER, I am concerned that you might get distracted with the friend tagging along. Is the friend pagan and if yes - does he/she understand the quest. A lot of people are going to reprimand me now... but if you are open to mind altering drugs - you might want to try some - BUT before I get stoned (no pun intended) - you cannot do this if you are not going to be responsible and most definitely not where you cannot be safe. Within the Shamanic beliefs mind altering potions are used regularly to open the mind. The experience you seeking is an overwhelming feeling of joy and contentment - to me this is personal and I dont want to share it with someone, which is why I have my first concern. You also dont say if your husband understands what you seeking for if he does - I will rather have him come along than the friend, not only to watch over you but also to hold you afterwards as this is magick at its purest form and you will need emotional comfort afterwards.
nicely put.
Very nicely put and thank you all so much!

To Benjamin:
As for my friend, she was born into a pagan family and her and I have known each other since we were 6 years old (we're both very mature and would never be irresponsible especially in a situation like this). Our mothers were best friends and we were raised more as cousins than friends. We are very close spiritually. She's already done her spirit quest and I'm asking her along for guidance and company.
My husband understands what I'm doing and why, but he doesn't share the same beliefs as me. He'd love to come along, and I'd love it the same, however, that can't happen if he doesn't start focusing his energy in different places. I know that may sound harsh, but he's too much of a worrier for me to be able to relax with him there.
I'd love to use something that will alter my mind into a deeper and more relaxed state, however I'm in the process of searching for a job, and if I'm still trying to search for a job by the time it rolls around, those types of things are a no no. I have found some advice on mixtures that I can make (which shouldn't be detected in a urine test should I find a job opportunity), but I am still looking for something that seems right for me.

To Angell Phoenis Schooler:
Music also helps me relax, but I will be taking an instrument with me, as will my friend to make our own music. And GREAT advice about leaving all time pieces at home. I forget sometimes how horrible clocks and watches can be and how much they can stress someone out. That will help SO much.
have a safe trip, and drop me a line, let me know how it goes. I would like to go on one of those one, when I understand more.
I've had one of those it happened at a pagans festival (winter solstice) where I was on alot of mind alter substance's, LSD with DMT, after that I could see gnesha, lord shiva and Hermes in the sky... Even tho I didn't even no anything to do with Hinduism or much about Wiccan beliefs then, alot has now changed...

Btw dmt is known as the spirit molecule because it's the chemical that is released when u sleep, it is produced by ur pineal gland located in ur brain which is believed to b ur 3rd eye in alot of differnt cultures!
You DON'T need mind altering drugs, to meet your spirit guides! Lsd, peyote etc. can take you to very dark places in your mind, especially if you never use drugs like these and aren't used to the affects of the trip. It can turn into a F--NIGHTMARE! So be wise and refrain from using drugs! I met my spirit guides in dreams and visions completely stone cold sober! A good herbal formula to open your psi vision, THAT's SAFE! Is Sage, Mugwort, Chamomile and Lavender. make a tea with the dried herbs. And drink all day like water on your trip. Blessed Be!
I can't STRESS enough to you. The damage these drugs can do to your mind. irreperable repair that can take years to heal. I wish you well on your Spirit Quest and may the gods bless you on your journey!
