For the past five years since I started studying the Wicca religion. It has been brought to my understanding that a lot of people that study the Wicca religion. disagree about suggesting books written by the author Silver Raven Wolf.I have had some discussions with some people that say that silver is stuck on herself because she only writes about herself.but what we must come to realize is that Silver Raven Wolf is writing books about her own experience and how she got to where she is today. My question is how do you feel about Silver Raven Wolf? In why would you suggest or would not suggest her books to someone that is just starting to learn about the Wicca religion.

Silver is a good friend of mine and a wonderful author IMO i did an interview with her on my old Zaracon Show if you would like to listen to it the show page is www.blogtalkradio.com/zaracon and look for the Ravenwolf show, you will also hear Reverend Don who joined us for this 2 hour interview where a lot of these issues are discussed then you can make your own judgments blessed travels Z. also please let me know what you think after listening i would be interested
as for myself I respect Silver Raven Wolf for her dedication and hard work over the years. And by reading her books I do understand that she sharing with us what has worked for her since she started on her journey into the craft. It would be a honor and a pleasure to one day get to speak to someone that is well known in the craft as her.
I agree, with you. It is her journey that she is sharing with us. I also am aware that what worked for her may not work for me. The same with any of the authors out there. There is no right or wrong way in our faith it is an individual journey. However, it is nice to hear, read and see others journeys for it gives us an example of what might work for us. We have to learn to sort through things -all things in life with a grain of salt, taking what is necessary for our personal growth and throwing away what is not.

I get upset when I hear people criticize another person in the faith. It is their journey, who are we to judge them. We can share our opinions as "I have read her book and I don't feel it fits my journey" but that should be the end of it.

I believe the same is true with the criticism of those who have written lessons for WSI, they are personal journey's and writings based on those personal journeys and what each individual has come to understand in the faith. I may read about a certain God or Goddess but that doesn't mean I will ever have a connection to that deity. Should I show negative attitudes towards that person because I can't connect with that deity. NO! That deity may not be ready to approach me/ I may not be ready for that deity to approach me.

My point is, instead of us expelling negative energy toward each other we should learn to uplift each other and point out the positives in each persons life and journey. Like OceanWitch says Silver Raven has been very dedicated and worked hard to make sure that the craft is known. That is where we should focus on. Remembering if we don't agree, say it with respect and not bashing. Negative Energy breeds negative energy... and that will only come back and hurt you.
I say that you and i have a lot in common when it comes to the believe of other religions. We all must realize that there are many religions in this world.when we speak about working with gods and goddesses. We must come to realize that people that are Christians follow the word of Jesus Christ because if his teachings work better for them to help better their life. But there are people that believe that the ancient religion goddesses and gods will work a lot better for them to help better their lives. It is not up to us to judge these religions because they did not work for us it is left up to the Lord and lady to judge us for the good works that we do by helping individuals to understand what our religion has to offer. I do believe that if all religions could come to the understanding that we all are on a spiritual journey to better our lives this would be a better world to live in.
I made a point in another thread about Silver Ravenwolf, My point being that just because there may be a statement that you disagree with does not mean that Silver has nothing to offer.

She is The High Priestess of a group that has over 50 covens that is pretty impressive.

Silver Ravenwolf has some great techniques and a clear accessible writing style.

Many have a warm place in their heart for her as they remember her as the open door to the Craft- Blessed Be
But then it comes back to the " I don't agree with her statement, that ...." one statement here or there doesn't mean that all of her work should be thrown in the trash.

Instead it means that people who read her stuff need to use their own brains to work through what she has said and pick out the usefullness. I personally think it makes one a stronger learner when you can look at something say the quote about the angels and say I don't agree with this and why? well, you can't say I don't agree and this is why? unless you study...

I think so many people are spoon fed their beliefs. I use to be married to a Christian pastor and I saw so many people in the churches we went to take what he spoke for truth. (and not only him but other pastors as well, and although these men were very educated and well studied, they are human and they make mistakes and it is up to us as individuals to study things for ourselves to find the truths. Just as in my personal situation I have seen it in my faith here.
Well, if we were to compare all the books she has written, one thing is obvious. There isn't enough time in the day to do all the things she recommends to do in one day with 4 children.

Another issue is with her historical inaccuracies.

But I'm not going to criticize her because I've been guilty of the same things.
ok im a little blunt at times folks tell me but here it goes when we read these works from any author it is up to us to devour the work take in what nurtures us and crap out the rest . lol i do not want anyone setting the limits of my beliefs in accordance with theirs and i choose to read , learn and listen to folks from all walks and as i said keep what nurtures my soul
yes I do agree with you. There many times when I am reading books that I will come across a lot of things that I disagree with. But I still will keep that as knowledge and wisdom that someone has shared with me. We all must understand that in all religions that there are things that we will disagree about but it is still knowledge and wisdom that has been shared and passed down to us. I know a lot of people dislike Silver Raven Wolf because she is writing about herself and her own experiences. But this is something that I find that is very knowledgeable because she is not writing about anyone else it is her own experience that she is sharing with us. So I find it to be a more accurate account of what she has went were to get to where she is today on her journey to better her life.
Remember - we can find life changing things in the most curious places.

Maybe we read one line in a book
Maybe we find a quote written on the side of a calender
Maybe we see a glimpse of kindness
Maybe we see a scene of grief
Maybe...

We may not know when and where the moments that are life changing come... we just need to be open minded....

I have found those little nuggets....in the strangest of places.

And I love what you said Zaracon said - if we tell someone not to read something just because we don't like it or agree with it we may be keeping them from finding those little nuggets which could end up changing their lives forever.
I have read Ravenwolf's Solitary Witch and have used it to cross reference what other authors/books say on the same issue/topic I'm reading at that time. I, myself, can be very critical and had been told that "I think too much" but that's just how I am when I get into something. It took me a great deal of reading and researching before I made the decision to follow the Wiccan Path and I'd be lying if I say that there was nothing I've read from any books that made my head shake, talked to myself loudly or made me say hmmmm. And these reactions I had were not only from Silver's book but also from other authors. Chrissy is right, what worked for someone else doesn't necessarily mean will work for her or me. Wicca is a very personal journey. I understand that there is no absolute, supreme, or right & wrong when it comes to writing books that serve as guides for the next "Wiccan-in-training". If there was one, I need to know who taught them what they've learn and impart to the next generation. I've been told before not to read Ravenwolf's books or Grimassi's. I was just told by someone from a meet up group I attended tonite that I should stay away from Llewelyn published books because some have inaccurate info/teachings. Of course that convo didn't end there. I had to ask the person why and how she knew they were inaccurate...

This is the beauty of having the ability to discern which teachings apply to us, which ones will work and which ones don't. I won't stop reading, neither will not give myself a chance to read and explore these "condemned" books just because someone told me so. The decision still lies with me, as Cunningham mentioned in one of his books...READ; not just the ones "dubbed" as "good" books but also the "bad" books. Just don't believe everything you see in print. This made me realize that this calls for trial and error. This is why we don't just read 1 or 2 books throughout our journey. We have to be informed in matters that will affect our lives and also other people's live that will be affected by the course of actions we take. Ravenwolf's writing came from her own perspective, from her own point of view, so who am I to say that she's this and that aside from the fact that she's contributed a lot to OUR community. I maybe a newbie in this but do know that everyone has to create their own Path towards the Divine, be it one that includes Ravenwolf's teachings/books or not, is my own decision to make and my own Path in my journey.

Love and Light.
Merry Meet Cerridwen,
Llewelyn has published so many authors and books that how can some one make such a ridiculous claim as "Do not read any Llewelyn books"
It is so sad to me to see this new divide in the Craft.
But it is human nature. Peace and Blessings
