I feel that there is a place for hunting in people's lives and eating meat.
But what my Gods say to me about this is as follows.
My Gods command that I hunt or starve to death.
My Gods do not command me to offer a life to them. They can sustain themselves.
Nor do I thank the dead animal for giving its life to me. The animal would rather have lived.
Instead, I feel that the herd is thanking me for weeding out its old and sick to make it a stronger herd.
Native American people do have a hunting code. They don't hunt during mating season and they don't over hunt.
Because animal sacrifice violates a lot of animal cruelty laws in many countries, I do not feel that we as Pagans should openly teach animal sacrifice to people.
It could land us all in a lot of trouble regardless of what our individual beliefs on the subject are.
This is the main reason I was banned from another forum and came here. I was banned for opposing the public promotion of animal sacrifice by one of their members.
A few regulars here on WitchSchool should keep this in mind while trying to participate on that forum more. I have already heard from one regular about her beliefs and they are similar to mine.
What do your deities tell you about Animal Sacrifice?
As an avid hunter/fisher, I believe the animal killed should be respected. Do to them as you need, and if not only what you would expect in return. I highly doubt any of my animals back home are going to fix me dinner, but I'm sure they love me knowing that I am not going to cut them open and bleed them out on my altar. If a God/dess asks for blood, you don't have to senselessly kill another spirits vessel, instead, try using ritual in hunting. Claim your trophy yet make use of every part you can...
I agree 100% with you - I dont hunt, I never will, I dont even fish... I find it barbaric and cruel. Yes I do eat meat, but its 20% of my diet and I try where possible to use only free range or organic... at least they had a better life and a peaceful death. Like you I dont thank a dead animal for offering its life... its arrogant of a human to think they wanted to die...
