I think that a cat is the single most intelligent and exotic pet that one can have .
A cat loves you without the over needy excesses of a dog .
It is a masculine pet (many argue this point but I hold true to it)
Like a dude, a cat wants to chill and do its own thing and when ready a cat wishes for attention as do we all.
As far as spiritual practice a cat makes the best Familiar because of (This is my opinion someone may argue) it is the smartest and most intuitive of the domestic animals.
I grew up in a house with 6 to 10 cats at a given time they are a blessing and had their own little personalities.
The best and most intelligent pet one can have is given away for free at all times if you want a free brilliant pet save the 400 dollars on a pure breed (In breed) dog and go get a free kitten.
Blessed Be
P.S. I love dogs to but am just making a point about my favorite ,cats are the best pet.

Permalink Reply by Sparrow on December 14, 2010 at 5:32am The Cat as a familiar is an aid or even a guide in some circles.
However it is sometimes agreed that the Cat chooses you.
It is personal.
so for magic Cats are an aid a choice an extra energy and a companion.
I am currently on the search for a new Kitten as my old Cat has moved on.
I never look for fancy I only look for a Kitten whatever the place. No "Dog show inbreeeding going on here"
One Kitten I found literally in a dumpster. He was an awesome pet. One I rescued from underneath a big lawnmower were he almost got sliced up. This tiny little thing crawled OUT From under the blades "JUST IN TIME". I named him CHOPPER as he was almost sliced in a lawn mower called a "Dixie Chopper".

Permalink Reply by Crescent (Rev) on December 14, 2010 at 10:00am Merry Meet, Boudica. For a cat to become a familiar, it is a great honor for both the witch and the cat; they must be in tune with each other and want to "work" together to make magick. It's true that the best cats are "found" cats, ones that are drawn to us and vice versa. When my first cat died, I grieved for several months, then, on a whim (which I believe he sent me), I went to my vet's and asked if they had any grey tabby kittens for adoption. They did, one that was found in a garbage can at 2 weeks old and someone had brought in to them for care. This very wild kitten that I adopted became Bear Crowe, whose photo you can see next to my name. I always ask his permission, "Would you like to be my familiar?" and he always seems to love going into my altar room where we do rituals and spells. He even meows during some of them, so I guess he enjoys it. I believe that any time you take a photo of or use an animal in any way, you should ask their permission first; it's just polite. And they'll usually cooperate more. Many Blessings,
Crescent

Go to My Classes, Class Registration, type in "familiar" and submit query. I've taken it and it was pretty good. Blessings,
