Vegetarianism and Wicca

I've been a vegetarian for five years, longer than I have been wiccan. I was wondering how other people interpret "harm none" in their diets and if anyone else is a vegetarian.

Raisins may be a problem--they're toxic to a lot of animals, but the nuts should definitely be ok. As to the rye berries, I'm not sure, but I'd think they'll be ok. Don't do the raisins, tho!

Hi everybody!
I just joined. I have literally grown up in a barn. We have 6 cats and a dog--may adopt another dog who's living with my sister if we get moved anytime soon (that's a whole different story!). My cats are my familiars, all but one, who is semi-feral. We also have horses out in the pasture around us (we live on the same property as my parents and sister's family).
I've spent most of my adult life until just the last couple of years working as a vet tech, so animals have really been my whole life! :) I love them soooo much. I've never really had to go looking for animals, they've all come to me.
I'm not a vegetarian, but I'm also quite picky about my meats, like most of you. I have a crappy immune system, so I can't afford to let anything get into me that I don't need--not pesticides, etc. So I eat as much organic and free-range, etc, as possible. I'm more into organic than I am local, unless local is grown by organic methods (forget the stamp, just need to know how it's done!), and that's just for health reasons. I tried going vegetarian, but I got really sick on it, I have to have meat for health reasons, so I do my best to look for the most humane methods I can.
I see that I know some of you, and the rest I hope to get to know soon.
Hugs and BB--Happy Yule!

Hi All,
I joined a few days ago but did not make an introduction. I love animals! All sizes, shapes and types. Growing up we always had lots of pets including a cats, dogs, a parrot, Cockatiles, Anoles (American chameleons), Jackson's chameleons, Nile Monitor, Fish both a salt (with an octopus who ate everything else) and fresh water tank, snakes, and we were always picking up strays or animals that needed homes. This is still how we get our pets today. I am an omnivore but I am very picky about where I get my meats and I tend to eat mostly seafood and veggies, so not a lot of chicken or beef. I have lots of friends who are vegan or vegetarian and have great recipes for people in those categories or with allergies. I have volunteered at numerous animal shelters and vet hospitals and have also worked with CCI (Canine Companions Inc.) and have worked on a ranch with horses. I am a massage therapist and herbalist as well and have used my skills for animals as well as people. A lot of the witchcraft I practice revolves around animals because I have a strong link with them. My totem is the White Tiger.

Hi Everyone,

I am a great animal lover. I have six cats (I found a stray in my garden shed with two kittens - then she had three more before I could get her fixed) and they rule my life. I am semi-vegetarian ( i dont eat any meat but I do eat fish, eggs, and shellfish - yes I know I shouldnt but I'm not that keen on a lot of vegetables, although I love lentils and beans).

If I had the space and the money I would probably have a menagerie of different animals and would give them all the space they needed to roam free but making sure they were safe from predetors such as foxes, although I love them too and have an earth at the bottom of my garden. It's so lovely to watch the cubs playing in the late afternoon.

Bye for now

greetings just recently joined wsi and this group i love animals and plants as well i have been a chef for 19+ years so i do eat some meat and am very particular about what meats and were they come from. for instance all the steroids they inject in the animals nowadays is ridiculous and should not be supported there is a fast food restaurant that has started getting there meat from overseas so it is not fda approved 100 percent. i love horses and many different animals as well when i lived in ohio i grew up on a farm.animals can give much happiness not just for eating i believe animals are very loving
