You are so blessed to have been aware of your guides at such a young age. I know exactly what you mean when you say, "its hard to describe; its a feeling I get." It was very difficult for me to recognize a message from a live animal at first. The day I found a pygmy rattler in my mop bucket, I just knew. Researching rattle snake medicine gave me much insight into what was going to happen in the next couple of months. I called this a 'gentle' lesson, considering how a rattle snake could have contacted me.

I am mostly visited in dream-time. It is amazing, I just get an intuitive feeling right in my dream that this animal/insect must be trying to tell me something. It took several years to glean what Wisdom Grasshopper had for me. When the insight finally came, I recognized it immediately.

I also sometimes request contact as I fall asleep. Grasshopper, Coyote and Honey Bee have all gifted me with their Wisdom/Medicine upon request. It is a most marvelous journey! Blessed Be!!! Gaia'l

Hi Jennier! Since you seem to already be in tune with animals and other messengers during your waking state, maybe you can take a guided meditation and ask for a message or animal guide to come to you as Eagle did once before. Or, like Gaia'l, you can ask for their contact right before you fall asleep.

Like you, I have always loved and tried to protect and care for animals. During my waking state is usually when I receive messages or ideas from my "local" animal guides because I am familiar with their habits. If something about their routine seems off then I know they are sending me a message.

In my dreams I am visited by other animal guides that would otherwise not be able to contact me. My Mother Bear, who has been with me since I was very young, would cause a great disturbance if she showed up walking down the street in my city, so she comes to me when I sleep.

I find both of these ways to be comforting. It helps remind me that we are all part of a bigger connection and that we all need to look out for each other.

I too believe that our animal guides change as our life situation changes. I don't think they ever leave us, but another may step foreword for awhile. I grew up in Wi around Native Americans and learned a way of calling wolf spirit to me. I always felt that wolf and I were close. We moved to Id and my relationship with wolf became much more intense. Our big, brave German Shepherd refused to walk behind our house. I sensed it had something to do with wolves and consulted an animal communicator friend who confirmed this. The dog knew that wolves use to have a path that ran behind our house. She knew because she could feel their spirit there and so many at once made her cautious of getting in their way.

I decided to call the wolves to me and ask them if they would calm my dog's fears of their spirit. In Wi when I sat on my blanket and called them they never stepped foot on the blanket. Suddenly in Id I was eye to eye with them, their noses in my hair. It was the most wonderful experience!
And after asking them very respectfully, my dog was never afraid to go back there again.

I now live in Las Vegas. Since coming down here almost 3 years ago I've felt that wolf has stepped back a little and a new animal was going to step forward. I noted one day how I'd never seen so many hummingbirds. One evening the first year I was here I was out walking just as it was getting dark. Something in a tree caught my eye. There sat, yep sat, a hummingbird. I assumed he was settling in for the night. I later purchased a hummingbird windchime to honor him. Nothing happened for a long time, aside from seeing them. Then some of my stuff from Wi arrived (about a year later), and in a box I found a delicate pair of hummingbirds that I had bought for a gift, but gave something else instead. I couldn't understand why I had kept them since they weren't my style. I honored them now with a place in my china cabinet.

Just this week I was reading in the park when I heard strange noise. I looked up and found myself eyeball to eyeball with a purple hummingbird. Don't know what color the wings were they were moving too fast! We eyeballed each other for a few seconds and then it was on it's way again.

I would welcome anyones thoughts on this. I'm not real familiar with hummingbird symbolism.

I got chill bumps reading your blog. This type story is so significant in that many of us are experiencing these magical occurances. Hummingbird is symbolic of great courage, endurance and hovering in the present moment. It also brings the medicine of enjoying scents, flavors and the beautiful things in life. I also have a raven and a wolf as my spirit guides. i find the wolf particularly comforting. when my daughter was murdered threeand a half years ago at the age of twelve i was concerned because she hadn't yet found her spirit guide and i worried that she was 'alone' in Summerland without anyone to guide her. A few days after her memorial service i pulled into the driveway, i hadn't been thinking about the spirit guide for her at the time, when i looked to the hill behind the house i saw her. standing beside her was a huge black wolf. shyanne looked down at the wolf and then back at me and smiled, as if to say she was doing fine and she'd found her guide after all. i haven't worried about shyanne in summerland since. after awhile i asked my spirit guide to find out the name of the wolf that had been with shyanne. during a meditation a few days later my guide came to me and told me that the name of shyannes wolf is 'she who walks beside her'. so i knew two things from that name, one that shyannes guide is a female wolf and two...that her guide is always with her. one day i will enter summerland and see shyanne again, and when i do our wolves will run side by side. in our next lives i believe we will all be reunited as well. soul mates don't have to be male and female, they can also be mother and daughter. anyway, thought you might find that interesting. blessed be

Hi Briawen,
I am so sorry for the loss of your daughter and I hope her murderer was brought to justice. I find your story really comforting however, knowing that our loved ones are not left alone in Summerland. And, I also agree with you about Soul Mates. I believe that souls are genderless, neither male nor female, so a person can have Soul Mates who are of the same or different gender. Most people think of Soul Mates in a romantic light but I believe that Soul Mates have a connection that goes beyond romance.

Hi Anavrin;
Yes, he's in Attica state prison in NY 25-life. Having that vision of Shyanne and She-who-walks-beside-her was such a comfort to me that i had to share that with others. I have finaly been able to set my 'mourning' aside because i know now that i was mourning for me and my loss, Shyanne is perfectly happy where she is and wouldn't want me to be sad or depressed, i can just imagine her saying "why, look where i am, what's to be sad about?" it was the not-knowing that had me concerned about her, no one has ever been to Summerland and returned with memories to tell of it, that i know of anyway, so i'm very grateful to the Goddess for giving me that glimpse of Shyanne and reassuring me that all is well with her. blessed be Briawen
