November 16th is the official day to celebrate the ancient tradition of Hecate's Supper.  On this night, after feasting, all the leftovers are left at a crossroads in honor of Hecate, as Guardian of the crossroads.  I have been working on a ritual for our coven and asked for a visit from the Goddess Herself.  It took several nights of requests before I went to sleep, but finally, Hecate came to me in the guise of our local State's Attorney.

I didn't realize till preparing a New Moon ritual that Dark Moon Goddess Hecate had waited to visit until the Dark phase of the Moon.

I have had this happen before, a Guide gifting me with Wisdom in the persona of someone I know.  Last time, Honey Bee came as a dance teacher at my school.

The State's Attorney went to high school with me so I have followed her career closely and am very proud of her accomplishments.  I'm not naming her because I would never want her to have to proclaim publicly that she is not a witch because of me.

In real life, The State's Attorney is a middle-aged woman of Lebanese descent.  As Hecate, she was coifed in long dreds.  I don't know the symbolism of the dreds; maybe some of you can help me out on this part.  In the dream, instead of serving humanity at trial, she was serving dinner to her family, which I connect to the Hecate's Supper ritual.

Although, in my dream, I immediately recognized Hecate in the State's Attorney persona, consciously, I would never have made a connection between the two.  That just reaffirms how much wiser the Guides are than I am.

Hecate is best known as Queen of Witches, but She also embraces many other attributes.  Of all the God/esses, only Hecate was known to be a fair and impartial judge.  "As the Crone, Hecate is all Wisdom, understanding and protecting the tribe(society.)  Hecate always remains calm, knowing that certain things in life must come to pass and there is little point in becomming hysterical about them.  This inner illumination of consciousness, this learning to roll with the punches and come back to better things is the deep wisdom taught by the Dark Mother Hecate."  (Dragonoak.com/Hecate)

I have noted in the past that my guides seem to enjoy surprising me.  It seems to be a magical game we are playing.  I'm thinking they are continuously reminding me to look for and appreciate the Goddess qualities in all mortal women.  Blessed Be!!!  Gail

Sounds like a fascinating experience! So how's that ritual coming/
The ritual is finished. I learn so much from researching and writing rituals. I am very fortunate to belong to a Witch School group which meets on all the holidays and moon phases to work with the specific energies. Blessed Be!!! Gail
This got me wondering, "What is the symbolism of dreadlocks?" I found an article, which to me seemed very well written, that gave some insight into why dreadlocks are spiritual in nature.

http://thebutterflytribe.com/articles/historyofdreadlocks.html

Here's just a little of what the article talks about...

"Dreadlocks carry a very heavy spiritual meaning that is virtually unknown in today's modern society. Now worn as a fashion statement, a political message, or as a rebellion, many people, young and old alike, have no idea what dreadlocks mean spiritually, and they do not know the position they are putting themselves in by having locked hair. Dreadlocks carry the notion of devotion and sacrifice to the Deities..."

Now, the author of the article goes on to mention that those who wear dreadlocks are making a commitment to the deities wether they realize it or not, which I am sure will surprise alot of people! I am not so sure I agree with that sentiment but there is alot of other interesting information given in this article as well as links given at the end.
Thank you soooooo much for following through, researching and posting this article. It was fascinating. I must admit, I didn't look it up. Now, I feel expecially blessed by the symbolism revealed to me through my dreadlock wearing Hecate. Her African origan and adherance to justice and balance would of course make Her a perfect candidate to proudly wear locked hair. I LOVE this group!!! Blessed Be!!! Gail
