ok I have a slight issue I got a scrapbook to use as my BOS and I thought it would be more personal if I turned it into a tribute to the green man, believe me the concept was very nice when first done, i used leaves from a tree in my back yard and placed an image of the green man in the center, now it has been a few months and the leaves are cracking and peeling and i am not sure if should try to save it or start over. would anyone have any ideas?
A few questions first. Did you press the leaves before you glued them on? If you pull them off could you glue silk ones over the mess? Silk is natural. Did you seal your leaves with any lacquer? Ok I am done.
If you love the idea. I would fight for it. Pull the leaves and find a way for it to work.
Did you press the items? The easiest way to do this is to press the fresh leaves, flowers (or whatever organic materials you are using) while they are still green and pliable. Cut two pieces of waxed paper just big enough so that you have a margin of the paper around the item. Then place it in a location where you can weight it down with books or such to make it flatten out. After the organic material has dried out and all of the moisture is gone, you can remove it from the waxed paper and spray it with a preservative commonly found in hardware stores or your local craft shop such as Michaels. You also can iron it while still in the waxed paper. Trim the paper around the perimeter of the organic material and paste it in/on your BOS.
I would not discard your creation because you made it with wonderful intent and I am sure it is beautiful. I would probably put it in a place where I could admire it for what its intention was and begin a new cover for my BOS. It use it in its deteriorating state would be a dis-service to it as it will continue to fall apart.
Bright Blessings.
