Gemstones and Jewelry

I am new to Wicca, but must say I am learning as much as I can. I am so excited to be learning, and I really like learning about the different types of divinations. I love arts and crafts, and there are many things I can do with arts and crafts within Wicca. I have never worked with essential oils or gemstones or anything like that, but for some reason I feel like I really want to work with essential oils and gemstones. When I was little, I would go with my mom and sometimes my grandparents on vacation, and often we would go into gift shops where they had gemstones and such, and I was always amazed by them, and I never knew why. Now, I am beginning to wonder if there was a reason behind that. I don't feel that I have been able to truly feel anything from gemstones when I pick them up as some other people have, and I am hoping I develop that ability soon. Anyway, even though I really want to work with essential oils and gemstones, they often cost a lot of money. There is a store, hobby lobby, and they sell a select few essential oils and gemstones. You can visit hobbylobby.com to look around if you haven't been to this store or site before. I was wondering if anybody could tell me if their essential oils were a grade that I would be able to use and if their gemstones were real instead of man made because I would like to use them for jewelry. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. :-)

Essential oil grades should be posted on the bottle. Look for Therapeutic or Pharmaceutical grade posted. If it says fragrance oil it is not an essential oil.
If you want to work on essential oils, I suggest getting a few aromatherapy books from the local used book store. Most have a list of basic oils for you to start with such as Tea Tree, Lavender, Ylang Ylang, etc.

As for the stones, I'm not as well versed. there are many books out for them as well, such as the Crystal Bible and Cunninghams book on Gems Stones and Metals. If in doubt, ask someone at the shop if the stone has been dyed. If they don't know, that's pretty telling on the shops part.

Good luck on your new interests I think you will find much joy and pleasure working with both. I also enjoy making jewelry. I am currently working the PMC (Precious Metal Clay) and I think I will be able to make some wonderful pagan pieces.
