In the Botany Dept of the British Museum they have what they call 'spirit jars' which hold the 'spirt of the item in the jar.

The first contains flowers and fauna that could not be pressed. The second jar contains reptiles.

Another term for Spirit jar is Witch Jar. A completly different use to the above jars which were for accademic and preserving purposes only.

This old Witch Jar contains human urine, nails and Vetiver - which some believes holds the soul of spiders! The following is an ex-ray of a 17th Century Witch Bottle found in Grenwich, London, England. This was made to keep the spirit of the person in the bottle for ever. Once you owned the bottle, you owned the spirit of the 'owner' of the urine. Other bodily fluids, hair and nails could also be used in these jars.

'Honey Jars'
These are both similar and different to the above Witch Bottles and Spirit Jars. Honey Jars are used to 'capture' the one you want to love you. The base is HONEY, and then you add HAIR, NAIL CLIPPINGS, PHOTO, BODILY FLUID, (not urine), PETALS and other ingredients. There are other things involved in making the Honey jars, which may or may not be covered by some courses in Hoodoo, Voodoo, Obeah and Santeria.

Are you aware of the Wiccan Rede and honoring everyone's free will? Do what you will but harm none is the will of the law.
I've heard of spirit jars before. But the jar with the urine and nails in it. I've done this before. It's a form of protection to put nails, broken glass and sharp item in a jar and then to add your own urine. They take it outside and burry it in you yard. It keeps evil away from your home.
This is the kind I'm familiar with.
Yeah, I am quite familiar with a Witches Jar or witch bottle spell. But it is true that they would fall in the category of spirit jar. http://bluestarrgallery.blogspot.com/2010/03/spirit-jars-tornado-pr... http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100605233032AAHvJIc

Morning , could not these jars work both ways? in other words to capture the spirit of a person to me would be a dreadful thing, I guess depending on its intent . could we place ' time ' in a bottle as I sure need more of it lol. thanks for sharing interesting MP
Hi Fantum, I have made up an imaginary jar for you and put 10 extra hours in it. You must use them up by Sunday. How would you use them?

I would spend the extra 10hours sleeping.
