JULY 2010 BOM "Betrayed" by P.C. and Kristin Cast Week 2, Discussion 2, Ch. 8-12

Hey guys,

So it's time for our second discussion, so without further ado, here we go! I'm hoping we'll get more interest the longer we're doing the discussions...

1.) How interesting are you finding the book so far (as in, how hard are you finding it to put down)?

2.) What did you think about the invite from Neferet to eat upstairs with her and the adult vamps to Zoey?

3.) How did you feel about the cops coming up to the House of Night and questioning Zoey about the 2 missing boys from her rival school?

4.) What did you think about her encounter with Aphrodite and the vision--did it seem kinda "convenient" that Zoey showed up in the right place at the right time?

5.) Were you surprised by Zoey's leaving the school and her subsequent time spent with Heath, not to mention his crazy idea to leap into Zoey's car and cut a vein?

6.) Please ask the rest of the group a question of your own.

Hugs and BB,

Jen :)

1.) I couldn't put the book down! I am so loving it, and I can't seem to stop reading. I had to force myself to stop before going further. I can't wait to answer the questions so I can move on and read more! :)

2.) I was thinking "uh-oh" too at first, wondering what it was about, but not really scared like Zoey, just wondering what Neferet would want to talk to Zoey about, but I think Neferet is a really cool mentor. I think that she's got a great intuition where her students and her mentees are concerned. She knows how to handle them and how to deal with them on a one-on-one basis, and she knows what to say and do to put them at ease. I think she's handled Zoey, especially, in an amazingly great manner, for all that Zoey's been through. I definitely think this invite was great to set Zoey at ease and to let Zoey get anything out that she needed to get off her shoulders, cuz a good mentor would definitely be able to see that Zoey has things on her mind.

3.) Honestly, I was shocked that it seemed like the ONLY person they seemed to want to talk to was Zoey, cuz I can't imagine she'd be the only kid at the House of Night who came from that area. I can't imagine that there's not ONE other kid who didn't come from that school or the rival one, so it seems a bit strange that they didn't want to question anyone else. But, given the identical necklace, it makes sense they'd want to talk to her at some point. So, it made some amount of sense, just not an entire amount yet. I'm curious to see where it'll go, of course. And I'm sure they got a tip from somewhere, too... Kayla the nasty? Who knows... Can't wait to see it play out!

4.) I hate to consider anything "convenient" cuz I don't believe in coincidence at all. But it was odd to me. And I think it'll be interesting to see where this part goes, too. I think there are so many plot points starting right away that it almost leaves my head reeling, but it really makes me want to keep reading. I'm not sure what to think yet, except I do believe Aphrodite, mainly cuz Zoey does, and I feel this kinship with Zoey, did from the minute I started reading. She's such a likable and credible character you can't help but feel that, ya know? So, I'm curious to see what will happen and how it will happen.

5.) I was shocked all the way around. I was surprised she'd leave. I was surprised she'd stop for coffee and STAY. I was surprised she'd talk with him and stay there talking. And I was shocked she let him walk her to her car, much less hang around. Moreoever, I was absolutely STUNNED when she let him cut himself and then leaned in for a taste. I can't wait to see what's going to happen next, but I MADE myself stop! It's killing me!

6.) What do you think will be the implications of Zoey's loitering with Heath on the "plan" for the bomb scare? Me: I'm very concerned about this cuz she left the phone, and she's now getting ready to Imprint even more with Heath, so I think it's gonna be even harder to get him to go away and leave her alone, plus she has very little time to get back to school and go through witht he bomb threat. I'm wondering if Stevie Rae will find the phone and go through with the plot instead? She's a tough one, so she might just do it. But I know they'll all worry their heads off at Zoey's absence and what it'll mean, too... So I'm interested to see where that'll go. We'll find out soon!

Hugs and BB,
Jen :)
1. I had these few chapters read in one day and I couldn't stop myself from reading more. I've got the book already read and have started on Chosen, so yeah . . . literally couldn't put it down.

2.Well, when I was reading through it, I didn't think anything of it. It seemed harmless enough. You know, Neferet checking on Zoey kinda sorta privately and gave her (Zoey) a chance to talk to her mentor about her ideas. But now that I look back on it after I read the whole book, it seems a little suspicious that she would invite Zoey up to where the adults eat just for some checking up on and small talk.

3. Well, it seems logical. Others from either school, Zoey's or the rival's, had probably not known much but mentioned that she had been at a couple parties and sorta knew both of them. So that may have been the thing that led the police to the House of Night and ask Zoey some questions. I'm not sure how the necklace fits into the murders though. Only the leader of the Dark Daughters has that necklace and Zoey still has hers. I've got a theory, but I don't want to mention anything since it deals with things that happen later in the book. I don't want to spoil anything.

4. I think this encounter was more odd then convenient. I can kinda see why she'd be by herself, but so close to where Zoey would be passing by to get to the Sables? (I flip through the book to refresh my memory) Zoey also instantly believes her when she mentions Grandma dying. If it were me, I probably wouldn't have believed her so easily, but I'm glad she did.

5. I wasn't surprised with her trip to town and her run in with Heath. I don't understand why she had to leave the school in the first place. I'm disappointed that she didn't get up and leave when she saw Heath, disappointed when he sat down and didn't tell him to go away, let him walk her to her car, and disappointed that she let him get into the car and cut a vein.

6. What do you think about the group's decision to make a fake terrorist threat to get the bridge cleared? Do you think that it will come back to bite them in the butt, so to speak?
I don't like the idea of the terrorist threat, but if it get's the bridge cleared then I guess it's better then telling the truth. I'm not sure about the consequences. I kind of think that the FBI will eventually trace it back to this group. But since they really didn't harm anyone I don't think the consequences will be too awfully bad.

To Jennifer's question:

I'm not sure what I think the implications might be. I guess worst case scenario would be that the FBI and others wouldn't be able to make it in time before the bridge collapsed. Also, she may be so desperate to try to call it in that she will use a phone that can be traced and she gets herself or others in trouble for the threat.
Hey MerrySparrow,

I was very concerned about the threat call! I know they got things all planned out, so that it seemed that they knew what they were doing, but I really am concerned that this will definitely come back to bite them in the butt! I really think it could be an issue, and I'm concerned that local police and/or FBI could trace it back to them. They don't usually take terrorist threats kindly, especially since 9/11! So, yeah, I'm worried for them, and concerned about what the consequences will be. Noted, there was nothing there, just the threat, but you can't take threats sublimely and be like, well, it's ok, nothing happened.

Jen :)
1.) How interesting are you finding the book so far (as in, how hard are you finding it to put down)?

I am actually listening to the book (books on my way to work or while surfing the web) and I am enjoying them very much. I do listen twice, at home and in car so I catch all the details.
Hey DesertStar,

Did you decide not to answer any of the other questions, or have you not gotten that far?

Hugs and BB,
jen :)
I guess the other questions did not seem revelant to me. I do not dissect a book thinking such things or I don't get through it and leave it. I just enjoyed the book for the book. There are times I think "yeah right", but let that go quickly or again, I don't finish the book.
Ok, well, to each his own. Maybe we'll see you again later on another discussion!
Hugs and BB,
jen :)

Have any of you gotten to the end of the series yet? I myself am working on snagging 'Burned'

I haven't. I'm reading them as we go.
Hugs and BB,
Jen :)
