JULY 2010 BOM "Betrayed" by P.C. and Kristin Cast, Week 3, Discussion 3, Ch. 13-18

Hey guys,

Hope you're all doing well. This is the next discussion for July's BOM, "Betrayed." I'll see you back next week for the next-to-last discussion of the month!

1.) Are you (still!) finding the book hard to put down?

2.) What did you think about Zoey's experience drinking Heath's blood and finding a sexual tension there as well?

3.) What did you think of Aphrodite's interaction with Zoey and her group (and its aftereffects) when they found out about the bomb threat after it was called in?

4.) What did you think about the planning and set up of the room for the Dark Daughters and Dark Sons ritual, including the introduction of the new kid?

5.) How did you feel about what Zoey witnessed between "ghost-Elliot" and Neferet?

6.) Please ask a question of your own to the group.

Hugs and BB,

Jen :)

1.) Oh yeah, I couldn't wait to get this discussion posted so I could get back to the book!

2.) I think it's an interesting revolation, and an interesting evolution, in the vamp lore. I think it's, in a way, a bit of a fall-back to older vamp lore, but it does make a lot of sense, and for a young vamp, it makes a lot of sense that it would ignite something within that she doesn't even understand.

3.) I thought it was very interesting to see that Aphrodite gave Zoey a lot of respect for how she saved her grandmother and Zoey also respected Aphrodite for telling her the truth. It was also nice for the whole gang to see that Aphrodite WAS, indeed, telling the truth. I think there were a lot of implications there, and there will probably be a lot of fall-out from this one event. I think it was great that Zoey sorta stuck up for Aphrodite at that point, and that she had a lot to say about it all. I like that she decided to make the new Dark Daughters a better group as well.

4.) I thought it was great that the guys from the previous group helped to set it up, showing respect for the new leader, and not caring that Zoey wasn't going to treat them the way that Aphrodite had in the past. I thought it was also very interesting to see how the new guy seemed to fit in so well, and that he was Damien's "type." ;) It was fun to see all the interaction and that Zoey took over the leader role very well.

5.) I was pretty horrified! I was sorta in "Zoey mode," thinking can this be real? I had sorta thought in the last book that it might not all be over, but in a way, I had thought that Zoey had rid the school of all ghosts, including Elizabeth and Elliot, with her ritual when she took over the Dark Daughters and banished the ghosts back to where they came. So I was pretty much feeling revulsion and shock when I was reading it. I also was thinking, well, this is where the dead guys came from...

6.) Do you think that what's going on with Zoey and Heath is a matter of Imprinting, more of a matter of past history and mutual attraction, or maybe a combination of both?
Me: I'm thinking it may be a bit of a combination of both, with Imprinting being more strong on Zoey's part than on Heath's. It's been pretty clear from the beginning that Heath has always been attracted to Zoey and probably would have opened a vein for her BEFORE she was a vamp, so I'm not sure Imprinting is as big an influence on his end as it now is on hers. JMO, of course, but that's kinda how I'm thinking...

Hugs and BB,
jen :)
1. Like I said last week, I had such a hard time putting it down that I finished it extremely early. I started reading for week 2 on that Monday and finished it early Wednesday morning. So, I really couldn't put it down.

2. Well, I wasn't too happy with it. I would have expected better of Zoey, but what's a story without a main good character misbehaving, so-to-speak. I mean, she would have said no, or just pushed him out of the car and drove away, or something. She didn't didn't have to sit there and let Heath cut himself and let his blood overpower her. I'm just seeing myself in Zoey, and thinking that this wouldn't be what I would do, so why is Zoey doing it. I guess I'm just weird like that.

3. Well, obviously there is still hostility, but I believe Aphrodite is going to be a big ally later one. I'm not sure how or when, but I definitely see it. I just wonder why Zoey's group is still so hostile towards Aphrodite after she helped them. It's probably 'cause of all of the past negativity. I don't know.

4. I liked it. Zoey seems to really want to make this more of a positive organization and she's expressing that through the decoration of the Rec Hall. I guess that a physical, visual change would really get it through people's heads.

5. I thought it was very interesting. It made me wonder what was going on and wanted to know how this was going to play out. I kind of wonder how this is going to play out in the other books as well, if it makes it that far.

6. What is your reaction/thought on Ghost-Elliot calling Neferet "Goddess" during the scene by the wall?

I think it's a little weird. Why would she want him to call her that? What is she trying to get at? So many questions and no answers. It's just so odd and confusing I don't think I could ever answer this kind of question without asking questions myself.

To Jennifer:
I think it's a matter of a mixture of Imprinting and past history. She had already liked him before she was Marked, and so did he and I think the Imprinting just strengthened it.
I'm feeling a lot the same way. I was kinda freaked out by the whole situation--the blood-letting, and all of it. It just squigged me out. I couldn't imagine where it was all gonna go, and now that I've read more, I STILL have a ton of questions. It just seems extremely evil to me!

Hugs and BB,
Jen :)

P.S. Is it just me, or does it seem weird that it's just the 2 of us discussing that? It seemed like a lot more of us read Marked, and everybody begged to read Betrayed, didn't they? Odd! LOL ;)
yeah. Not too many people seem to want to discuss the book. Except for us that is.
