MAR 2011 BOM "Psychic Self-Defense" by Dion Fortune, Wk 1, Disc. 1, Expl. Note-Ch. 5

Hey guys,

This is our first discussion for Psychic Self-Defense by Dion Fortune. Oh, and don't forget, since it's on my mind, to set your clocks forward tonight!

1.) What was your first impression upon reading the Explanatory Note?

2.) Were you aware if you had any psychic gifts before reading the book? If so, do you think it'll have any bearing on what you learn in the book?

3.) What did you think of Dion's tale of her own experience of having been hypnotized into illness?

4.) Do you think you'd know the signs of a psychic attack if you saw or experienced one?

5.) What did you think about the case of Mr and Mrs C and Miss X?

6.) What about the case of Miss L?

7.) What did you think about projection? Was it different from what you had learned before, if applicable?

8.) Did the chapter on vampirism surprise you? If so, how?

Hugs and BB,
Jen :)

P.S. I'll be back in a day or two to supply my answers--have a few things I must do before I get to the answers! :)

1.) I thought at first, this woman really knows what she's talking about! I also thought the advice was incredibly practical. I didn't even have to get to the "Then and Now..." to know that the book was gonna be very good!

2.) I've known since I was old enough to really understand what psychic abilities were, because I knew I've talked to ghosts since I was 3 years old. I have read the book before, and I thought it might have some bearing on what I learned--I still believe that it did and has. I've read the book repeatedly, and always find more to take home from it.

3.) I think it's incredible to know that someone can do that to you. I've been bullied and beat down but never to that extent. I was kind of surprised that someone that I admire to the extent I do Dion had gone through something like that, but when you think about it, you learn the most from such awful situations, so I think it makes her an extremely valid witness and teacher/mentor.

4.) I do think I would. I do believe I've experienced it, and I definitely feel like I recognized it. I did get checked out by a doctor, and did all the things you're supposed to do, and then I learned more about shielding, and it was only the shielding techniques that put it all at bay. I believe that there are many cases of "mental illness" that may not be genuine mental illness, but actual paranormal attacks or experiences. I think that some of these cases need to be pursued more on a case-by-case situation, and possibly need to be looked at by paranormal researchers to discover any possible psychic attacks or experiences instead of simply attaching labels like schizophrenia, etc. I do think there are cases that could be helped by other means than medication. So, yeah, I do believe I could find these cases and help others that way. I've been very open to this idea for a number of years.

5.) Although the case itself and the facts presented at face value seem a little convoluted, I find it very fascinating, and I don't believe in coincidence. I think that people may also do things without necessarily intending to, but I think Ms X may very well have intended this situation to occur just as it did. I think this is very much in line with many other psychic attacks.

6.) I also find this case very interesting, and I do believe in past lives. I think that an interesting point here is that we can't ever look at someone we assume is just obsessive or a total "looney-tunes" and think that's all there is to it. There are always layers to a situation, and as an observant person, I tend to look beneath the surface. I think this is really important, and I think this case illustrates this point very well.

7.) I thought it was really interesting, but it did surprise me a little. I didn't know that a human could create an elemental. I always thought they were just ancient beings that had never lived upon this plane.

8.) I really wasn't terribly surprised. This is something I've been aware of for some time.
