MAR 2011 BOM "Psychic Self-Defense," by Dion Fortune, Wk 4, Discussion 4, Ch. 16-Concl.

Hey guys,

Sorry this is sooooo late! I had a crazy week doing a paranormal investigation--think this book might have come in handy? lol So, here goes:

1.) What did you think about the discussion concerning psychometry?

2.) Have you ever used psychometry before?

3.) What did you think when you were reading about the effects of running water?

4.) What did you think about the method of exorcism given? Do you think you'd feel comfortable performing it?

5.) What did you think about the Magick Circle as described in the book?

6.) What did you think about the discussion about rapports and breaking their links?

7.) What did you think when you were reading about the Occult Police?

8.) What did you think about the comparison to the Middle Age superstitions and revisiting them?

Looks like we've finally reached the end--hope to see some comments posted soon. I'm going to post mine shortly. Just need to find time when I'm not running, running, running!
Hugs and BB,
jen :)

1.) I was a little surprised by some of the things mentioned because I've used it before, and I guess it never occurred to me some of the things that were mentioned. This time around, I learned a lot about psychometry the way Dion sees it.

2.) yes, several times.

3.) It wasn't really a surprise to me, it's something I've been aware of for a while, and nothing really unusual. It's also pretty mythic, so it went along with a lot of things that one would consider natural.

4.) I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable doing one yet, but if it became an emergency, I might... But, as for the discussion itself, it essentially FEELS like the right thing to do. And as much as I instinctively trust and admire Dion, I can't imagine she doesn't have the right of it.

5.) Invoking/drawing the circle and calling the quarters is very similar to the Wiccan practice of doing the same thing. Some of the rest of the practices are to me much less Pagan and more Christian, although I can't imagine any Christians I know doing much. But as it calls upon Christ, it wouldn't be my cup of tea.

6.) I think it's not unusual to create a rapport amongst anyone. But some can be stronger and more intentional, and if necessary, need to be broken. I've done so in more than one case, and I've also reforged some bonds that I've broken. It's a long story, and the new bonds are now different, not controlled by either side, but as a give-and-take, good thing. I think that the discussion was very thorough, and I like the options for breaking ties.

7.) I thought that was interesting. I've never had any contact with them that I'm aware of, but I do get internal nudges at times. Nothing like what Dion describes, but maybe some of my experiences have been under their watchful eye? Who am I to say yes or no? I know that sounds a little bizarre, but there are experiences I've had with a friend, that it's more her story to tell than mine, so I must leave it at that.

8.) Oh, I think we have probably never really gotten away from the Middle Age superstitions, and I think if we're honest with ourselves, many of our myths and legends really aren't just myth and legend, they're based at least a bit on truth.
