i have noticed that kitka watches the screen when i am watching a dvd or something on hulu (she likes the pink panther ...). Today she was pawing at the belly dance instructor and her students. i have seen books advocating dancing with cats but kitka and i are a bit old and slow ... (it is hard to type with 1 hand and a cat in the other ...) do they respond to the motion? i know it is not the sound ... dd

Hey Dolma,

My cats will definitely paw at the TV screen when we're watching something either interesting to them, especially animals, or something that flashes a lot with noise. It depends on the noise--but if it's clinking or clanging, etc, they really react a lot. Dogs and cats, they react to, and other animals. But if they are near the TV when we are watching, they'll pay attention often. I have one cat who climbs up on the TV, then paws at it from above! So, yeah, I'd say this isn't terribly uncommon! LOL ;)

Bear Crowe tries to sit in front of the computer monitor ALL THE TIME!!! And sometimes, he really goes after the cursor, which turns into the little hand or arrow. So yes, my cat paws at the screen! And like you, it IS VERY DIFFICULT to type while holding a cat in one hand and typing with the other. Then, he goes down below and pulls on the mouse cable! I just can't win...
I think the Felines respond to the motion.
A Feline I had in the past (had to put her down she got Feline cancer).
She would watch hockey and would try to catch the puck on the screen with her paws.
I just solved one problem; I got a wireless mouse! One less cable to worry about...
