I've done a lot of research even before joining this site about the Wiccan way of life and I enjoy it immensely. I continuously feel drawn to magick and Wicca. I seem to get a little green around the edges when I start to cast a circle or speak out loud to Deity. The part that makes me uncomfortable is speaking out loud in the manner that most of our books and advice tends to show. Such as, "O Fire of the South, great bringer of warmth and emotion..." I can easily read and create these sort of greetings, but speaking them has me uncomfortable. Does anyone have any advice? I feel very disappointed that I am unable to feel comfortable projecting myself with ease in a ritual.

I'm afraid that there is no real advice anyone will be able to give you per se, except that you probably will simply need more advice and confidence in yourself as a Witch/Wiccan. You need to feel more at ease that this is the right path for you, whether for simply just now, or for always. You need to know that what magicks you are working with are REAL, that the powers you invoke are REAL, and that perhaps a bit of humility isn't uncalled for. However, that said, humility isn't the same as fear, and so you need to stand up tall and recognize that you've chosen this path, you are a Witch, by golly, and you should be proud to shout it, even if you will only do so in the comfort of your own home. So when you know you will be performing a ritual, I'd advise (Ok, I said there wasn't any real advice, but I guess it's coming! LOL) that you prepare ahead of time, have everything ready, and know exactly how you're going to do it, so you're not bumbling around and don't know what you're doing! You should speak the words firmly, move confidently from one aspect of the ritual to the next, and be confident that you know you can do this. There is no one tried-and-true way to do it, only what people can say they've done. There are so many different ways of doing things, which is part of what makes Wicca/Witchcraft so wonderful and such a blessing to all!

I hope that helps!

I have been solitare for so long, most of my rituals are silent. The Gods/Goddess knows what's in your heart. If the flowery speach isn't your forte, say things from the heart. I know when I did that, I just cried because what I said had meaning to me. This is all mute if your are within a group and they have their ritual set up very specific. Practice, practice, practice! In front of a mirror until you are very comfortable with the words.

Brightest blessings upon you--and all that jazz,
Chelle
Greetings Diane,
I had the same problem with speaking out. It is wonderful to know exactly what your gonna say ahead of time, However there are times that its just not possible. I have found that if you just speak from your heart it will work out fine! There is no wrong or right way to do it. Have faith in yourself and you will make it threw just fine. Always remember to release after all workings! Michelle says it all!

Thank you everyone. You have all helped me greatly. I will begin practicing and attempt to be more comfortable in my own skin as a witch. Acceptance and patience I suppose. The silent speech will be a good thing to try as well as mixing the speech. I will let you know the results.

Blessed Be and Peace

Diane
Oops--in re-reading my note above, I realize it should have said that you need more practice and confidence, not more advice and confidence--I'm such a dork! LOL ;)

Hugs and BB--and good luck!

The best advice I can give you is to forget what the books say, and say whatever is in your heart. Not only do you personalize your work, but you also add more energy to it when you do! You need to do what has the most meaning for you. As for being comfortable in ritual, practice practice practice. And do what feels best for you. Maybe a strict ritual isn't quite your thing... maybe sitting at the beach and communing with nature is more your thing, for example. You need to feel comfortable with what you're doing for it to work most effectively.

BTW - There have been many rituals I have done privately and silently. Just because I don't always speak the words out loud does not mean I can't project the words from my head or have personal conversations with my deities! INTENT is what matters most.

To my understanding you don't even have to make the words ryhme (sp). You can also create your entire magick space in your mind and create it in anyway you want it to be. My sacred space for ritual in my mind is a topless cave so that spirit can manifest there and then I have a beautifuil waterfall for water and a wall of obsidian for earth with plants growing around it and a wall of fire and a wall of yellow with kinda ribbons blowing upwards for air. I enter my space through the waterfall from the west and it's like a cleansing shower before entering my space too. I have an altar there and a caualdron all set up with all my tools and they are all beautiful and ready for me to use with a silvery cloudy type looking spirit above me so I have it all covered when I go in there. It's a beautifuili place and I sometimes go there in mhy mind just to meditate and feel the feelings of the energies there. Remember this is all in myi minds eye and it does work beautifully. It helps and helped me to build confidence in myself to do more in the concrete or "real" world. I am more able to speak out my intent with more confidence and faith in my spell and so on. I hope this helps . OH this is all done in silence too in your inner sacred space.
Diety will speak through you to you so don't worry about stuttering. And with practice comes acceptance of yourself. Diety is always there for you and loves you very much. It's all okay.
If words are important to you, practice makes perfect. Words are important to me and I suffer the same as you. My problem is I am too concerned with my insecurities and am too critical of myself even when I know there is no need to be. I guess that is part of being who we are as imperfect beings and that is why it takes a life time for us to learn even the simplest of lessons sometimes. Just try and remember that you are not expected to be perfect.

Unless you are doing the spell or ritual with someone else, there is no real reason to say it out loud. I usually just read it to myself, its out loud, but unless you're in my lap, you won't hear it... lol You have to make your spell or ritual for YOU! If you are uncomfortable about anything regarding what you are doing, your magick will suffer because of it! Don't worry about what anyone else thinks. It's all about you! Give yourself a break and do it your way and you will have a better experience, and your magick outcomes will be better...
