Making A Book of Shadows out of wood

I would really like to make my own book of shadows out of wood. I was thinking about doing it out of cloth at one point, though. I want the book of shadows to be like a 3-ring binder because I want to be able to take things out and add things and switch things around, but every BoS I have seen has the hinges on the front where it only opens the front cover, and it doesn't open all of the way up so you could have the 3 rings, but I was wondering if anybody could tell me if it would work if I put it on the edge of the front and on the edge of the back so I could open it all the way up.
