I have two boys ages 5 & 6.  I personally believe, plus all the literature I read states, that spirituality is important for a child's development - anyone's development for that matter!  My parents are Methodist pastors and my mother is particularly narrow-minded and quite nasty when it comes to alternative views.  It appears that when my kids visit, its more like a religious boot camp because they come home talking about hell, damnation, disciples, etc.  I know nothing of these things....

My plea is this - Can anyone suggest good books for me to use, to teach my children about spirituality.  My son is having a very difficult time in Kindergarten, becoming very emotional and acting out, and I want to give me something peaceful to reach out to.  I was not raised with religion and I've picked up Paganism on my own - very recently starting classes.  I've been considering how I can share this with my children....  Please help if your willing and able.

Here is a website that I believe will help more than me just listing a few books I have used. www.paganchildrensbooks.com

I hope this helps you...and any parent reading.

We got "Growing up Pagan" ourselves. sons are 5 and 7 Kindergarten and 2nd grade.

We like it because there are activities to do like crosswords and word searches and is very basic concepts nothing too heavy for a kindergartner. It also has 2 very easy for children blessings for bedtime and morning that we enjoy doing together as a family before school and bed.

this sounds great!  thank you

yes raising pagan children and wicca family are great pagan parenting books that has helped me out.

as for you mom, it is your house, your children, your rules, when she comes to visit,, you have to make it clear that she can not talk about hell, damnation, or anything like that.... this might start a fight, but it is a fight worth fighting.

i have also started a blog on some the pagan books that i read, I have only a few because getting ahold of some of these books can be pricey http://elvenfay.blogspot.com/

My youngest son just turned 13, and he's only just recently decided to try walking the Pagan Path. Finding books for younger children seems to be a little bit of a challenge. But, for a teenage boy? It seems almost impossible. I see books for teens, and books for girls, but not much that seems to be good for a teenage boy. I'm almost starting to wonder if he and I should sit down and write one, ourselves.

Another thing you can try while they are so young, but this will be challenging! Try meditation. My son was 12 years old and got into trouble at school. Another child was picking on him all day and he held his temper until the last class (band) when he exploded. He went over three rows of chairs to get to this bully. I got called to the school and was told that he had two choices, anger management classes or removal to the 'juvenile corrections school!" He'd NEVER been in trouble before and the other child had confessed to bullying him. From the anger management therapist we got him into Tibetan meditation and Buddhist meditation. He discovered Bushido and Shintoism. The rest as they say, is history.

Books in my collection that you may like:
Circle Round: Raising Children in Goddess by Starhawk
Celebrating the Great Mother: A Handbook of Earth-Honoring Activities for Parents and Children by Cait Johnson & Maura Shaw
I've also read:
Raising Witches & Family Wicca both by Ashleen O'Gaea

I'll give a second cheer for Circle Round. It has some very simple, easy things you can do with younger children, from crafts to stories, to rituals. Growing Up Pagan is another excellent choice, and is made to be read BY the children, rather than just TO them or FOR them.
