I am looking for some Midsummer menu ideas. I was thinking of making bread in the shape of the sun, setting out meats and cheeses, a summer salad with crisp vegetables and adding sliced starwberries and grapes (my daughter's fav salad)....any other ideas, or recipes? The sun bread may be more appropriate for Lammas though...maybe I could try making it in the shape of a butterfly? lol

you could also do some flavored rice dishes adding corn and red peppers with a few herbs and a little olive oil. thats always yummy and filling. also pasta salads with colored pasta (pretty) and an oil and vinegar with a mixture of herbs dressing. thats filling too. enjoy and blessed be.
Thank you for the ideas. We love rice dishes. A family favorite is...

Spiced Rice

1/4 - 1/2 tsp tumeric
1 tsp curry
1/4 tsp cinnamon
pinch of salt
pinch of nutmeg
water and rice(equal parts)
dried cranberries, raisins, apricots whatever dried fruits you have available
fresh herbs such as basil, oregeno, thyme chopped
handful of chopped nuts...whatever type you like, we usually use almonds or pine nuts

Add tumeric, curry, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt to water and bring to a boil. Add your rice, and remove from heat (or however you personally cook your rice.) When it is ready toss in your dried fruit, nuts and herbs and 'fluff' your rice. A wonderful golden colour, fragrant and so delicious!
This sounds very yummy ! You know Lori, you have some pretty awesome recipes ! )0(
Thank you! I love to cook, read cookbooks and gather recipes then switch them up. I add or take away certain ingredients so that they are more suited to my household. I tend to read cookbooks as a BOS and recipes as spells. When I make soups, sauces, cakes, whatever it is I am cooking. I will stir and say a quick spell for health, harmony, release of tension or stress, whatever the situation calls for. If I am baking I get all my kids involved...they are 14, 15, 20 and 20... I ask them to each say something over the batter/ mixture/ whatever for what they would like for our family.
An example of this is for Father's Day one year I had the kids each give their dad a special blessing over the pancake batter we were making.
A cool summer macaroni salad:

One small package of elbow macaroni,
one small green pepper, cleaned and chopped,
one small red onion, peeled and chopped,
one large sun ripened tomato, chopped,
one or two cucumbers peeled and chopped,
one or two pieces of celery, cleaned and chopped,

After cooking the pasta, rinse, and drain.
add the chopped veggies, mix with ranch or Italian dressing,
mix well and chill for one hour,
serve this cool and healthy dish alone or as a side dish.

This sounds delicious! Thank you. We are having a bit of a heat wave right now, so cool dishes are wonderful.
I made this recipe the other day for a quick side dish. It was really good. I used a homemade dressing of lemon juice, balsamic vinegar (wee amounts of both) olive oil and fresh basil and mint and a dollop of honey all put into a glass jar then shaken...make sure the lid is on tight!! lol

Thank you for the recipe!
