I'm trying to find a good meaningful main dish for Samhain, either a meat, or a casserole. I have all the little "cutsie" things for the kids, ("mummy-dogs" "apple bites" string cheese "cheese fingers with almonds" "graveyard brownies" & other treats including soul cakes) but I'm looking for something for the adults to eat.

My menu so far is Squash Casserole, Colcanon, & Barmbrack, but I have no main dish...suggestions anyone?

That all sounds great! I am using black corn tortilla chips in a cut out of a coffin and salsa served in a skeleton head bowl! Very ghoulish! Also, I saw today a recipe for pumpkin and yogurt parfaits with granola. Not sure how the yogurt would hold up though if you do a buffet?! :/
Greetings Lady Belladonna!
How did your Samhain "feast" go?! Would be interested to hear what you served!
For the adults, a mixture of beef with carrot rounds, onions & potatoes. I had a squash casserolle topped with white & orange cheeses that formed a cresent moon & star when melted over the top, green bean casserole, & home baked bread with bread shapes in the form of oak leaves & acorns attached to the top.
For the children I had "mummy dogs" (hot dogs wrapped in bread strips to look like mummys) apple mouths (apples quartered with wedges sliced out & slivered almonds inserted to look like teeth) & finger bones (string cheese with slices to make "knuckles" with the remaining almonds as fingernails)
Deserts were cookies that the children decorated in "Halloween" shapes, & graveyard brownies!
That sounds wonderful...and yummy! Your beef mixture sounds good and I think, very appropriate for the celebration!
LOL! I never got an answer before Samhain arrived, so I had to produce these ideas myself! Hopefully, some of the others will add to it for us all before the next one rolls around? ;-)
Not for nothing, but there is a course available called "Magical Cooking" here at Witchschool that has some great recipes for all of our holidays, if anyone is interested. As a matter of fact, there are entire menus! I tried a few, and have mix and matched the rest. Yum!
