Witch School International

Your Online Wicca and Magickal Education Source

I'd love to know where all of our members stand with regards to what amount of study. How many here are newbies? How many weeks/months/years have you all spent studying herbology? In what areas are you all familiar with herbology? Are there any specialties? Is anyone in school, other than WSI, studying herbology, or has anyone received an ND-type of degree? Who all do we have here? Would you all mind introducing yourselves a bit?

For me, I've been studying medicinal herbology for years, but I'm primarily a newbie to magickal, so I'm really interested in learning for about magickal herbology. I've studied magickal herbology for maybe about a year or 2. I'm not nearly as familiar with the magickal properties of herbs as I am medicinal. I'm Wiccan, something I've felt all of my life, and it's been accepted by my family for the most part the entire time. My parents encouraged me to find my own path, so I did! :) I've been studying it off and on for years, and finally dedicated myself to it about 2 to 3 years ago.

Hey Happyeyes,
You may well have done this in a past life! I wouldn't doubt that. I think that all healing is quite magickal, myself. And herbs are very interesting to me, too! I hope you will share with us some of the many things you've studied. It's nice to find another experienced alternative healer out there. I'm sure you can help many of the other newbies, too!
Hugs and BB,
jen :)
I'm embarrassed to say, I grew up on a tobacco and produce farm, but I am new to herbology. I would like to have a nice herb garden.
Ya know, there are a LOT of people who grew up on farms, and really don't know or understand herbology. But, that's often how it gets into our blood and why we want to have the gardens. Sometimes, that's how we start experimenting and learning, too. Welcome, friend!

Like many others have said, I've picked up a little bit of info over the years, but would consider myself a novice at best. I have been interested in herbal healing for some time and am looking forward to learning more.
Merry Meet,

I am Esmiria and I have been studying herbology for a little over six years. I have made several ointments, salves, washes, soaps and probably a few other things. I am currently taking the courses through Witchschool on herbs. I have to say it that there is alot to know when it comes to herbs. I hope to get to know you all better. I never recieved a message about the yahoo group but would really love to be there so what do I do? I do not have any degrees but I would love to at some point.

Blessed Be to you all.
Merry Meet Esmiria!

Getting your hands right into those herbs and making those differnt ointments, salves and more is what will give you more knowledge then anything. I love making soaps and oils....oh boy does it keep me busy plus keeps me ever so calm depending on what I'm using. It's a great feeling.

Merry Meet Everyone!

I'm a newbie to this group, but have been raised using many herbs for healing and cooking alike since my paternal side of the family tried their best as I was a child to keep to their old traditional ways. I have always been interested in herbs, perennials and all phases of gardening but as I grew older my children (who are in their mid to late 20's) always said 'if I ever get sick I'm not telling Mom 'cause she comes up with her homemade atomic bombs....but they do work'. Yes, my children said my home herbal remedies used to gag them but if they were sick they were over and done with it by the next day!
I bought an old farmstead back in 1998 with 177 acres at the time, so that encouraged me even more to get into studying herbs and other gardening aspects. I'm in Upstate NY in the mountains wherein it's a zone 3-4 here; there are many natural growing herbs here that even to this day I'm still finding and studying about. I did get my Master Gardner's degree back in 2006; and take yearly small courses with our local Cornell Cooperative Extension. Sometimes they get into what they call 'weeds' that I consider herbs; but they really don't have too many hands on classes here. I have been studying more and more since I moved here in 1998 and have multiple books on herbs. Recently in the past year I finally found three local groups that I work with that are very heavy into herbalism for healing. Some, I am familiar with and again, am always learning too. Magickally, I've worked with many herbs since I started studying Wicca/Witchcraft in 1989 but actually started practicing magick in 1997. I wanted to be sure I was more confident in all my learnings before attempting to put my energy out there without knowing the consequences that came with it.
Now I also have my own meet up group "Sacred Labyrinth Circle' wherein we work with many herbs in a hands-on way along with other perennials, vegtables, etc.
I've made a few different garden rooms around the immediate 10 acres of my home with using my 24 acres for more tree barks and other natual herbs that grow up here. My 77 acres across the street, unfortunatley is considered wetlands but again, there is so much I still have to learn. I had sold off 40 of my 177 acres so I'm down to 134 now; but every day is a new learning day for me since walking outdoors and walking the land (which is a long day in itself) I'm always finding new plants to look up, study and learn about. My camera is sometimes my best friend as it walks with me.
I will also add, being so interested in herbs does have it's complications too....for when mowing my fields; I find myself mowing just so much so that I can start another herb bed somewhere's. Hey how many people really know that dandelions, thistle, mugwart and even the vetch that gets caught up in my mowing deck are herbs? It can get addicting!
Through this site and also some other online sources which I see other's have taken from the other posts here; I would like to study more through something like that too. But, I will say being out there with and within nature is magick and knowledge within itself.
Bright Blessings Everyone!
Cindy

I started skimming the subject of herbalism in the craft when I was in middle school and bought on of Scott Cunningham's books but I really got into Medicinal Herbalism 2 years ago which has lead me to take my major in Holistic Healthcare. So I have a lot more medical herbalism than magickal herbalism. I finish my associates in May 2012 and I am excited about that. I focus on whole body healing using Nutrition, counseling and exercise first, herbalism and magick next, and as a last resort conventional medicine. I have been working with essential oils since I started massage school when I was 17 back in 2008. I am a Licensed Massage Therapist in Arizona.

So my total profile is this: I work in integrative medicine focusing on geriatric, woman and children's health. I am a massage therapist(3 years), herbal consultant (1.5 years), and I will be adding Nutrition Consultant and Aromatherapist to in May. I already integrate these modalities into my practice but this sorta make it a bit more official. lol

My goals are to become a Naturopathic Doctor and open a wellness center.

You are awesome ! That sounds like a great goal ! I hope to have many more discussions with you ! I am learning now myself. :- )
)O(

:) I look forward to the discussions I will share with you as well I have seen you all over the witch school so I am sure we will have some great conversations.

I am defiantly still learning but my favorite part of being an herbalist, even a beginning herbalist, is educating my clients and anyone else who is willing to listen...including myself! Seeing as I'm 20 I still have a LOT of time to learn and share!
