Merry Meet, Everyone,

How do you make your own candles? I know that you can go out and buy some fancy stuff but I want to make my own candles so that I don't spend so much money. I want them to be special and to mean something to me. Any ideas will be great.

you want to go kit method or full custom? Got an idea for the shape or plan to cast something you already have? Done a few candles so i should be able to point you in the right direction.

This is how I started out .It is also the easiset and cheapest way to try out making your own candles first, before getting a lot of suppilies ,you can do that later if it seems like something you really would like to do .

Save an old can, like a soup can ,make sure its clean.
You will need an old candle or candles (start small)chopp them up into small chunks put into can .
You will also need a container ,a small glass votive size holder works great

You will need a wick ,they can be found in local craft stores or online .Many come with a small metal base on the bottom, this will help you keep the wick centered when pouring the wax for your candle.

The metal base on the wick can also be affixed to the bottom of your container, with a sort of gum for candle wicks . Some people just use melted wax to help keep it steady .But I don't feel it is always needed ,it depends and could be something you may want to try later.

Boil some water in a pot, you will then place your can with candle chunks in the center of the pot ,make sure it doesnt tip.Keep watch and when the wax has melted, carefully remove can from pot ,use oven mits.

While keeping your wick centered pour your melted wax into your contanter. For now you can keep the wick centered by just having a long wick and holding at the farthest end while resting the other end at the botton of your container .But it is important to keep your hands away from hot wax . Hold the wick in place for a couple moments untill the wax has dried enough so the wick will not move

Then let your new candle sit at least untill the outside container no longer feels hot --a couple hours or over night .From here if you find you find you like making your own candles, you may wish to buy more supplies and make more involved candles .This is just an easy starting place .--Good Luck and Blessings

I usually purchase wicks and beeswax from a craft store, it doesn't cost very much. then, i melt the beeswax and dip my candles. Then, for color, I melt crayons and dip the candles until the color is opaque enough. I also make spell candles, where I write a spell on a slip of paper then wrap it around the wick before I start dipping it to make the candle. When you burn the candle, concentrate on the spell that you made the candle for. The spell will burn with the candle. Hope this helps! -Blessings
