Not sure which type of wood to use, how to do it, etc. Are they any rituals that would be good to use when I make it? Thank you!!!

I am actually finishing up a class on how to make a metal one. Could do a write up on a wooden one if thats what you want let me know.

Permalink Reply by Rob M on January 20, 2012 at 12:36pm Doing a full wooden one should be fairly simple unless you want to make the "blade" a different type of wood than the "handle". As to what type of wood you would use, honestly that would depend on YOU and the WOOD. when you have the correct piece of wood for you to use you will know. The mechanics would be fairly simple, you would only need three or four pieces of equipment. the obvious ones are a clamp a wood plane and a dremel. once you have the wood and the tools you just need to make the wood relatively flat on both sides and fairly uniform in dimensions. After that you need to decide what you want it to look like (design your athame). draw it on your "board" and use the dremel to make your design, then sand it down (can be done by hand or with the dremel). the only thing after that is to stain it if you desire and seal it.
Hope that helps ... BB

Permalink Reply by Michael on January 21, 2012 at 1:47pm Wooden ones done right are quite beautiful. I can post a few sketches to show you what you can do to give you some idea. I make my wooden knifes using a draw knife and some files. Dremals are nice but chip out some woods.
I have done a few with different color combos and patterns in the wood if your are interested in that.
