Permalink Reply by Rose in the morning dew on February 9, 2012 at 5:46am How about a nice journal? That is how I started. I then saved up and bought a 3 ring binder and some beautiful fabric that was witchy and I covered it. I liked that one much better than the journal since I could move my pages and I made a pocket to put printed papers until I could hole punch them. I am saving up to make a wooden one like one of the girls on this group did.
Permalink Reply by Amberhawk on February 9, 2012 at 7:14am Rose has a good idea. I know Walmart and Kmart both have a stationary section that you can get fair journals for decent prices. Though usually a 3-ring binder is a great start up as it allows you to move things around as needed and they generally doesn't cost a whole lot. Pulling materials together for making your own and making it nice would cost more than a binder anyway. Besides, its always better to wait on the fancy shmancy stuff 'til after you know all you will be using and needing in the thing anyway. I haven't personally decided if I want to make one or get a nice leather tooled one much later down the road. And I've been on my path 20+ years... go fig. I may never really pull a proper looking one together as things change so much even after all this time. I may just stick with the binder after all...
Permalink Reply by SolarDragon on February 27, 2012 at 12:43am If your a little more artsy you can make your own book by binding it. See the following link http://www.homemade-gifts-made-easy.com/how-to-make-a-book.html There are plenty or other sites on how to do this with different methods. I thought this one looked the nicist. I beleive its called cotton rag paper, anyway its good qualty paper used in professional bindings. You can get 100 sheet package at Office Max.
Permalink Reply by Syrai on April 27, 2012 at 8:45pm I make totally handmade Books of Shadows. They cost $150.00 USD, plus shipping, so it depends on what you mean by inexpensive. If you look around on ebay or etsy, you will see that my books are a lot less expensive than most out there. I just made a post on the main "Craft It Yourself" board with pictures, if you are interested!
Blessed be,

Permalink Reply by Syrai on April 27, 2012 at 10:28pm This is my current Books of Shadows that I am going to sell. All my books are totally handmade from start to finish. The cover of the book is 9" x 12", and the pages are 8 1/2 x 11 inches. I hand-cut the front emblems, board, and end-papers. The books are hard-bound with 500 pages (total pages, so 1,000 front and back to write on). The pages are acid-free and are an off-white to yellowish-brown color to look a little aged. I hand-punch and sew the pages together then bind them to the cover. Each book has two gold book marks. The front and back have raised corners to protect the pages, and the spine has five spine sashes. The fabric is a pseudo-suede in a medium browish-red. Each book has handmade black and gold marble end-papers. The one I have currently has a raised pentacle on the front. The cost is $150.00, plus shipping. I only accept paypal and ship within the U.S.
Blessed be,
Syrai
