Tonight I experienced something I'd never had happen to me before. Allow me to give a bit of background information before I explain though, and I apologize in if I ramble a bit...
I often wear simple gemstone/crystal jewelry. For instance, one of my favorite pendants is just a small piece of polished amethyst with a tiny loop screwed into it for a chain or cord. I always get a feel for a stone before I try wearing it since some stones just don't feel right. Example, that amethyst pendant was picked out of more than a dozen amethyst pendant just like it simply because it felt better to me.
Recently I recieved a set of 12 different gemstone pendants as a gift. I've tested the feel of each, and they've all felt right to me. Since receiving the set, I've worn the amethyst, hematite, and aventuring pendants with no problems. Tonight is the first time I've had a problem.
I was getting ready to attend a function where I felt that something that would aid thought processes and learning abilities, as well as enhance communication. I went through my jewelry and was drawn to the sodalite pendant that came in the gift set. I re-read all the information I already had on sodalite and it seemed to imply that sodalite would be a good choice. The information that came with the set simply said that sodalite was good for enhancing confidence, which I felt would be helpful to me at the function I'd be attending as well. I'd tested the feel of the stone prior to tonight, and it felt fine, so I had no hesitation in wearing the pendant.
On the way to the event, I began to feel a migraine coming on. Now migraines are not uncommon for me, and I know my 'triggers', one of which is stress. As such, I assumed I was just stressing about the upcoming function and ignored the pain. However, within an hour, I was beginning to feel extreme pain, so I began doing all the little things I could think of to lessen the pain, just little things that have never failed in the past... But nothing helped. Instead, the pain kept getting worse. I don't know what possessed me to think the sodalite pendant was involved, but something in me said to take it off, and I obeyed the instinct and laid the pendant on the table in front of me.
Sure enough, the pain started to lessen and continued to let up until it was completely gone.
At the end of the evening's event, I picked the pendant up as I was leaving and the migraine pain started again almost immediately. I quickly dropped the pendant in my jacket pocket and once again the pain let up. When I got home and took it out of my pocket to put back in the gift box, the pain started up, just to lessen once more when I let go of the pendant.
I have never, in all the years I've been working with gemstones and crystals, had a stone of any kind actually cause me pain. Odd feelings, sure, but never actual pain. Even now, after experiencing it, I find it difficult to believe that it was all brought on by a simple sodalite pendant. But the facts remain...
1. I have never had a migraine come and go like that before unless major painkillers such as vicodin or percocet were involved.
2. The pain began after wearing the pendant.
3. The pain tapered off when I took it off.
4. The pain began again when I touched the pendant and stopped when I was not touching the stone.
Based on the facts, common sense and my own experiences with headaches, it would appear that the migraine I had was connected to my sodalite pendant.
Since I don't really have any other outlet for this particular experience, I thought I'd share it here and get some input from others. I'm curious to know if anyone else has ever had such an adverse reaction to a stone or crystal... Especially after having no ill affects after touching it before. Or even if anyone has ever heard of anyone having such an extreme reaction.
