Oh I saw it last night. Took the whole family to see it and as great as it was i was also very disappointed. There were many elements of the book that I found to be important but that the movie played down or changed all together. I will wait to add a few more of my musings until I have seen that others have seen the movie.
I completely agree...I was disappointed with the fact that they left out things that should have been put in or left in if it was put in to begin with and then they changed numerous aspects of the movie...I have now seen it three times and each time that I have seen it I have found something missing from it and I get more and more disappointed with the movie. I have found however, that the leaving things out have been worse the past two movies than it was with the first four...So I blame the director.
I agree with you Leona, parts of the story were missing and some changed. I was a bit upset about that, why they felt they needed to change things and leave some vital info out is beyond me. Some of the characters had little or no part of the film that were necessary to the story in my opinion.
We went to see it last night. Found it ponderous and slow moving, and not as good as some of the others. I guess I was expecting more.
I did enjoy the movie but I did find it to be slow moving and very choppy. I was upset to see that the cabinet was all in one peice and that did not make sense when Draco said he had to piece it back together. The other problem I had was with the ending. I was upset at how they just quickly ended it. There was no memorial for Dumbledor or anything like that.
I too took my kids and hubby to see it. I loved it of course but I was also very upset at all the parts that were totally wrong. Yes it was Harry Potter and My Family and I have been fans all along, so of course we loved it, but again WAY TOO MUCH was WRONG!
I just got home! It was a great movie!
I know what you mean because my mother came with us and she did not read the book and I had to explain so much of it to her after we got home. She was indeed confused by all the jumping around and inconsistencies in the movie.
Too fast paced at times, too slow at others. It was the equivalent of the love scenes in Star Wars Episode II.

Dumbledore was finally given the on-screen characterization necessary to construe him as this great and powerful wizard. Odd that he didn't try to hide his hand or his obvious failing health however. Quite funny how much he played up Harry Potter.

The ending was rushed, and not in a good way. No build up, no intensity, nothing. Just a quick, ten minute wave and goodbye, and a bunch of helpless lighting of the wands at the end. Weak spells or not, I don't think I heard a single person mutter "Lumos" or whatever to activate those spells.

Oh, Harry Potter needs to hit the weights. Hagrid uses a wand, but he at least knows how to fight and use a crossbow amongst other things. Harry couldn't even fight off one lowly creature. He relies too much on magic. Weak.

I'm just a cynic, and that's my objective view of the film.

My subjective view? I enjoy the films for their focus on wizardry and witchcraft and that gives me an escape from the mundane world, even if just for a few hours, to make me feel that I too can be a wizard. Of course, Oberon Zell suggests I can be with his book, but I don't know about that much. ;)
Honestly...

I did like the movie but it wasn't as great as the book. Maybe I was expecting too much.
There is a big difference between the book and the movie. I didn't like the movie. Change is not always good. I believe if it isn't broke do not try to fix it. Be Blessed Grey Owl
I enjoyed the movie a lot myself, but I think it was because I was not expecting as much. I agree the climax was cut too short, and Dumbledore really needed to show more of Riddle's memories. I mean, how is Harry going to have any idea what sort of objects to find? Also, as much as I adore Malfoy, there was too much of him and that blood cabinet. And all those artistic shots of Malfoy could have been easily cut and they could have used it for more vital information. Also, what was with the extra scene with the burning of the Burrow? Although it looked neat, that so did not happen in the book.
