PRACTICAL 12 MARCH '10: PRETORIA TEEN MURDERED IN HER HOME

Please determine what happened on Wednesday 10 March to Anika Smit. I'll keep all updated as the case unfolds and published in the media.

Anika Smit (17) was found dead in her room by her father on Wednesday afternoon. They live in Pretoria, South Africa. Mom and dad are divorced.

She was naked and both her hands were cut off, and police said she could have scratched her murderer/s in an attempt to defend herself, therefore her hands were cut off and removed from the scene.

She was staying home because of an ear infection on the day and her father arranged for the pharmacy to deliver her medicines to her. The pharmacist called him later to say that she’s not opening the door.

He then tried to phone her but she didn’t answer the phone. He thought that she was asleep, therefore not responding. When he got home around 16:00, he found both the gate to the property and to the front door unlocked and the locks gone. Her motorcycle was still there.

As he entered his house, he saw that furniture was overturned and he started calling her, then found her in her room.

It would appear that nothing was stolen from the home.

The autopsy will reveal whether she was raped as well. Nothing more is known at this stage.

This is devastating and really and truly very scary, in fact, it breaks my heart. I hope the sick individuals involved are caught. I am definitely going to try to connect with her. Thanx in advance for keeping us posted Sue.

I knew she was cut as soon as I saw her photo. It was a black man, late 20's to early 30's, tall and slim, physically fit. She did not know her attacker. She answered the door and he burst in on her, overpowering her. He'd been watching her, so he knew where she lived. He has a scar on his leg? That part wasn't clear. He wears braids, sometimes a small afro. He's raped a girl before.

I'm getting that she has never made any contact with the attacker other than seeing him once. I got that he has raped more than one girl, and I saw what looked like a burn mark/scrape on his leg... some type of discoloration.. was hard to tell what exactly it was. I also saw that her hair had been pulled during the attack, and that is what prevented her from fighting off the attacker.

Today's update:

The autopsy revealed that Anika was indeed raped. She also had 6 stab wounds in her neck, which could have caused her death. Apparantly she knew that someone will be visiting her on the day as the guard dogs were locked away in the back yard. Her dad said they do this when someone comes to visit who's not known to the dogs.

Another interesting development is that one of her Facebook friends 2 weeks ago said that "when a man stabs you in the back, you cut off his hands", which might be a lead. The police are investigating this and last night the man actually said that he was too busy (going on a date or to a meeting) to talk to the investigators - can you believe! Well, this can be something or nothing.

When I made contact with her she did say that she knew the murderer, but not well, so it might be a Facebook connection. She didn't expect this to happen at all, and she shows me that he more or less over powered her the minute he set foot in the house. She opened the door for him, so it wasn't a break-in. She also said that she took a bath before the person arrived, which might be the reason for her being naked still when th eperson arrived - I see her opening the door with a towel around her or a night gown (not very clear).

She seems to have been an innocent or naive type of girl, who trusted people too easily and that cost her her life.

Yes, absolutely! If people will just remember not to trust others so easily and not be gullible, if Anika just did - it might have saved her life!

I have tried not to focus on the how etc because the news reports are doing the rounds and I don't want it to influence my judgement or the information I am getting. As usual I am going against the grind here, I don't see a black man, I see the perpetrator as been a white man and I also saw a green car parked outside her house - not sure how or even if it is related.

The reports in the different newspapers are definitely doing the rounds - I saw that today.

At this stage it is best to ignore what they are saying I think. I also see a white male in his 20's, but let's face it, we can all be right, in that there were 2 people involved, black and white. It can obviously also be a light skinned coloured person and we are interpreting what we are getting differently.

All I know is she expected this person to arrive and opened the door and gates for him.

If you can, go back to your visuals and concentrate on the car - get the feeling of it; did it belong to the murderer; what make - can you see the badge for instance. Generally just get moe info on the car if you can.
