@Shadow Got to love moms. I'm kind of interested in learning more about recon religions. I'm also planning on writing a class for the open courses section on the Greek gods so a reconstructionist point of view might be helpful. Have any good reads that you recommend?

Oh that totally sucks, big time. Even though I'm a Hellenist (my mother read one of my Hellenist books and saw that no witchcraft was done so that was a green light on that practice), which is all about worshiping the Gods and Goddess of Ancient Greece in a reconstructionist manner I still have a Wiccan altar up. Now it's not noticeable as I don't have a pentacle, god and goddess candles, so forth, but it's there. I'm currently in the First Degree course here on Witchschool and last night I failed the test for lesson two.

My mother kept coming in and totally taking my mind off of what I was doing. I think she does it to make sure that I'm not practicing Wicca. This month, I'm going to work on it and next month I will pass the dang thing.

My brother is 19 going on 20 in three weeks. My parents kicked him out of the house when he turned 17 because he became a spiritual satanist, he's been on his own ever since. My mom told me that if I ever made the same mistake he did I could "Burn In The Pits Of Hell Forever" is how she put it. So three days later I told her I was moving out... She didn't try to stop me, I live with my brother now on the north west side of chicago and I work almost 24/7.
the days that i'm not at work i'm trying to make it through high school. I've been a loner since I became a Wiccan, NOTHING is going change who I am.

(live life with no regrets, because in the end it turns you into who you are...)

I'm glad to have a supportive brother but my mother is a entirely different story. She was supportive of Wicca and my involvement but now she's a total religious freak and won't even allow me to practice anything that she sees as having witchcraft in it. I'm glad that she still allows me to practice Paganism but it can't have any witchcraft in it. I have one of those out of sight, but in full sight, type of altars and as I'm 31 years old she can't really rule my life (though she has). Being the odd one out is sometimes great and sometimes not.

The other bad part about my mother is that she knows that she has full control of me, even though I'm adult. She doesn't let me make my own choices which is pretty clear with her 'No Witchcraft' rule. Sometimes, and I don't mean to sound evil or mean, I just wish that she would die.

Having been the odd one out not just as the only pagan in the house but in a lot of other ways, I've learned that the best thing you can do is to be honest. I used to always feel self conscious, watch my words and felt that I could not share my interests with my family. This is not true. Most families want to bridge the gap as much as their children do. Whether it be sharing a magical meal with your loved ones or sharing more mundane matters like a favorite TV series, people appreciate it when you reach out and they will reach back.
