After being asked to take down my personal altar because it made my family uncomfortable (it was in my bedroom but privacy is at a minimum here), I began to think of the long tradition witches and pagans have of subtle, subversive worship. Most of the tools of the trade are after all common household objects, or were at the time they were implemented. Since most medieval houses had no ovens, most food was cooked in a cauldron. The cleansing besom is no more than a simple broom. Candles are harmless enough.
So I was wondering some ways a modern day witch might express themselves in a quiet but meaningful way. I've decided that in lieu of an alter, I will keep a vase of fresh, seasonal wildflowers in my room. It is simple and won't attract attention or awkward questions. I can place flowers that are symbolic of the types of energies I want to work with.
Does anyone else have any ideas of quiet, subtle or even subversive ways of expressing our faith?
I know what your talking about. Naturally my mother hasn't asked me to take down my altar but I have to keep my practice low key. My mother hates Wicca and witchcraft and therefore that's the reason for the low key thing.
