For those of us who live in Christian families, Sunday mornings can be an uncomfortable and awkward. Pre-church breakfasts are a big affair in my family, bacon, eggs, pancakes, and all the trimmings. It’s a weekly ritual that I still wanted to participate in, even if I wasn’t going to church.

When the rest of the family has driven off to church, I’m left with the house to myself. I take advantage of this time. It started off as a way of proving to my parents (and myself) that I was not just skipping church to sleep in. I would get up when everyone else did (or shortly after) and eat breakfast with the family. Then, when the house was empty, I would practice meditation and spellwork. In a family of 6, there are few chances to do this without interruption, distracting noises, or awkward questions. Rather than feel left out, I look at Sunday mornings as a blessing. It’s a time when I can be alone with my studies and with the God and Goddess.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you manage to convince them to not drag you back to Church? The times I try to tell my parents why I don't feel comfortable going to Mass with them they drag me to Church and throw me in the Confessional. I've done more "penance" for being a witch than I need. @_@
Well, they're Baptist so I don't need to worry about confession. It also helps that I'm 22. there have been other compromises though. I'm not allowed to have an altar in my room, and for my own peace of mind more than my mother's I try to be subtle about my faith. In high school, she gave me the whole "while you're under my roof, you will go to church" but I asked her if she would kick me out and she did not.

Until I find a job and an apartment I have to obey my family's rules. But it helps to remember that they can't govern what's in your heart. When you go to confession, remember that you're not committing any sin. You've got nothing that the priest needs to absolve you of. Be a little subversive if you'd like. Say the wiccan rede (long version) instead of hail marry or our father on your rosary (siletly). remember that Mary is an incarnation of the Goddess, a representation of the transition point between maiden and mother and a symbol of creative power.

And stay strong. Parent's may not get it, but there are a lot of us out there in the same boat as you.
I don't recall ever learning the long version of the wiccan rede. And thank you :)
Oh I agree with what you said GarlicClove. My mother hates Wicca and witchcraft and she has made that clear a number of times. I have to do things in my room when she's asleep or wrapped up in her work that she's doing on-line. I order things from 13moons and give her the box so that she can ship her coffee to her family, which she likes. So as long as I give her the box to ship her super wonderful coffee she doesn't argue. I'm getting a pentacle in next week, sending the order today, and I'm having it send by USPS because I don't want my mother to see it.

However the next order is going to be sent by UPS so she'll get another box.
I'm lucky to live close enough to salem that I can buy my things myself. I tell my mom that I'm going to a spice or herb store or a book shop, which is mostly true anyway.
Lucky you.I've been in Salem three times and I went to Laura Cabot's old shop and everything was so expensive. Do you know if Laura has lowered the price of her things or are they the same.
Never been in there. I really haven't had enough time to properly explore Wharf St.The shop at the World of Witches museum has very decent prices. Most of the stones are no more than $1. Boxes of incense are the same. I looked at the web site for an herbalist on Wharf street that looks reasonable. When I get the chance, I'll investigate.
Thanks, I really would appreciate it. I'm going out this weekend and looking for my wand and then order some stones in a bottle and put them on the wand. I'll have to get a glue gun so that I can do that.
I bet that would look very cool. What stones are you thinking of using?
I was thinking about using stones that I really connect with. Most have quartz on their tips on both ends but I was thinking about having a quartz point on one end and a bloodstone point, if they have them, on the other. I really connect with bloodstone and have used it before. I have bloodstone on my altar and I use that to connect to my element, fire, and even though I was force to take down my Wicca altar years ago I kept the bloodstone to connect to deep magic and my element. I'm going to use bloodstone chips around the bloodstone point (if they have them) and then look for any stones that will work well on my wand. It will take time but I know that I'll be able to do it. I'll show a picture of the wand when it's done.
I used to use jasper in place of a candle in rituals when I was at college. We weren't allowed to have candles. I'd love to see a picture of the wand when you finish it. I think gathering the stones by feel and affinity will work better than just any old stones. I like the idea of having two different kinds of points. You could use the Bloodstone end for workings that focus heavily on fire like purification's or what ever you feel like requires a little extra flame.
