Merry Meet. We returned from Orlando a week ago. We went to the Harry Potter theme park and had a great time. As for the books, we are still reading the second one. He is just starting to enjoy reading and he can read.

I really like Harry Potter and I really think that it was good that a book series came out that got children to read. They re-released the Sweep series in a book volume that has three books in one for under $7.00. I've got Volumes1,2, and 3.

Hi All

Prays for this site!!!!!

It greatly upsets me that they are going to milk the pagan theme just like hollywood milks them all.
They dry themes till the people dont want to watch it.

HP is one of the greatest book/film series to promote wizards and witches in a good light. How many people have seen the origonal Sword in the Stone?
THat is also a animation film i believe should be in every pagan mothers collection of child literature
I even own a copy. HAHAHAHAHA

How are we all?

I am so grateful for this group! I'm about to start Sisters of the Blood. It's about witches, but it sounds like it's more on the dark side, so I will have to read it and make sure that it's (hopefully) not portraying Witches in a bad way.

Here are some of my favorite books that I think would be interesting to read from a Pagan perpective:

Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins

Witch Child and the sequal Sorceress by Celia Rees

The Crucible by Arthur Miller

Wicked by Gregory Macguire

Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

Children of the Sea series by Daisuke Igarashi

Confessions of a Pagan Nun by Kate Horsley

Sophies World by Jostein Gaarder

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke

PS. Orion, any idea why the author of The Mists converted to Christianity before she died? I find that very interesting.

I loved The Mists of Avalon...good book and good movie.  I've had Ancestors of Avalon on my book shelf since high school.  I tried to read it at the time but had difficulty getting into it.  Since I'm graduating college this week, I'm going to try to re-read it from a more mature perspective and hope I can get into it this time around.  Has anyone else read this one?

PS Harry Potter is the most amazing series of childrens' literature to come out in the 20th century.  Twilight can suck it! HP is an amazing hero in the fight of darkness vs light and all of the female characters in the books are strong and independent and could probably be classified as feminist.

Harry Potter is amazing with a side order of awesome sauce. I have all the books, all the movies so far, and a poster from the first movie. I was in elementary school when it came out, and as a incentive to get more kids to read, if you read the first book you could go to see the movie. (Any chance to get out of school and do awesome stuff I took it :D Especially nerdy stuff, plus I love to read!)
