I am wanting to make my own rune set, and want to make it from wood. I have heard to use oak or willow, but the person who told me that couldn't tell me the reason why... Does anyone have an opinion or reason on which wood to use?

What type of wood do you have a kindship with. YOU can make your runes out of any wood you can get your hands on. Just go by the meanings of trees.

Hope this helps

Typically I have always been told that it should be from any tree that bears a "fruit".
I have a set of runes of purple heartwood, I love them. I ordered them custom maded. First I did a journey walk to visit the forest of trees where my guides and father of the forest gave me the insight to use purple heart wood. My advice is use whatever wood calls to you. Look at the magical properties of the wood type for a connection with yourself and the intended purpose of the tool you are obtaining . FYI: purple heartwood is not a common magickal wood, so I wouldn't have been able to do research on them, so go with your inner wisdom is my advice.

Each different type of wood will have different magickal properties so I would say to choose the wood that you feel most drawn to.
On a practical point I would probably choose a wood that was soft enough to engrave the runes into yet hard enough to withstand the rigours of casting.
I personally have an affinity with Hazel, I love the vibration I get from it, I have a beautiful Hazel Wand which was made for me many years ago, despite being gifted other wands over the years, I still prefer my Hazel wand, it just feels so right....I love Oak too, such a wise old wood and extremely magickal!
If you are of a Witchy persuasion you will probably have your favourite magical wood that you like to use, hazel, willow etc... the Vikings used a variety of woods, whatever was available espacially ash, oak and norweigian fir tree.
Bone runes would be good too as long as you source the bone respectfully.
Anything but plastic!
I really can't add anything more to what has been already told to you. Great advise one and all.
Oak is one of the hardest kinds of wood, therefore durable, but also maybe birch might be good (Birch has been known to be used in healing and associated with the Mother Goddess). Rowan wood seems to me to be the best fit for runes since my book says it's the "Tree of Runes" and "Wood of the Sorcerer." Have fun.
