Being Part of the Experiment: the Fast
Company Social Influence Project
I discovered one of my favorite
magazines Fast Company is doing an experiment in Social Media. For their
November Issue of the magazine they plan to have a center photo spread of
everyone who participates in their Social Influence experiment. In the photo
spread those who are more social influential as judged will have larger photos.
It will be a very visual graph of the how Social Media can be measured by a
kind of linking game.
I am hoping you will want to help me work this experiment and change a few
perceptions along the way.
Maybe I am being a little silly, but I would love to be named as one of the Top
100 Social Influencers on the net. For me, that would be incredible, and this
experiment is a way to test and prove that it can be done. It may just be a
little ego driven, but I feel it is also important for another reason. It allows
us to see if we will be noticed, and unabashedly I want to be part of that, by
the mainstream business press. Fast Company is all about cutting edge companies
doing amazing things. I would love to see Pagans be part of this.
Fast Company has structured this so that when you first participate you link
through a URL. As Part of the experiment, each person is given a personal URL,
mine is http://fcinf.com/v/ddsr . The idea is then you hand
this URL out and get people to be influenced by you by having them click. The
more URL clicks you have, the higher you move up. That is pretty straight
forward, and it is a simple popularity contest. Not so much fun.
The twisty part is if you decide after being influenced by me to sign up in the
same session, then you become part of my social influence pyramid or whoever
link you clicked through. If you joined after clicking through my URL then you
become part of my tier as first degree of influence, and then as you grow, so
do I. By the rules, I get half you growth added to mine, without affecting
yours at all. If you get people to register, then you receive credit for them
as your first degree of influence and they become my second degree of
influence. This cumulative effect is created down to six degrees of influence.
This makes those you get to click through as important as the number of click
throughs you receive directly. This is a real way to have fun in a single, and
yes a little stupid project. Fortunately it will be shortly lived as it ends on
August 15th.
For the record I am 1260 out of 23,106 people (94%) and I have four people in
my first degree of influence, and I love them for it. They are Bill of
Bewitched in Salem Influence Link is http://fcinf.com/v/cx4g, Zaracon Influence Link is http://fcinf.com/v/a406,
Judy Influence Link is http://fcinf.com/v/cpkr,
and Arduinna Influence Link is http://fcinf.com/v/agg0,
and I thank each of you for being involved. I hope people that will click
through any one of these links and support them. I hope you will consider
joining this experiment.
It is my firm belief that I have amazing friends and allies that we can have
fun and make a go at this. It’s fun and it is free publicity, and some of us
can certainly use that. Plus it is fairly short lived, ending August 15th.
It would be amazing to be in the Top 100 on that day.
So I need your help, and try this experiment with me, and see if together we
can’t show we have real quality Social Media Influence. Again my URL is http://fcinf.com/v/ddsr.
If and when you join, share yours here as well, and we all will work together
to expand our influence. Come on and join me for the Summer Silly Season, and
Fast Company’s Search for the Most Influential Social Media people.
