Hello, I am in nursing school. I work as a Medical Assistant and Nurse Aid. I found my nurse Aide job to be rewarding and conflicting. I have a natural healing touch and skill with herbs. I made a difference to my patients but not to some of my co- workers and unit . It seems nursing is more about the money and business and not about healing people anymore. I am looking to an alternative career path. Look forward from learning from all of you

Im a nurse and an aged care worker..... Aged care is something I accidently fell into, it was never in my thoughts as something Id like to do, but now that Ive been doing it (for a mere 6months) I thoroughly enjoy it. Working with older people is such an honour and a privelage to be part of their last years in this life, when most of society turn their backs.
Next year I have enrolled to study midwifery so hopefully I can continue doing both. Being present as a human both takes their first breats and their last breaths .... well I just cant think of words. Magnificent pops to mind.... as does extraordinary and fantasmagorical ...lol.
I look forward to meeting everyone in this group of beatiful beings. xx )O(

I think it chooses us as my first inclination was to be a teacher and I literally was led to nursing by circumstance. What you are feeling Rowan Isis Coyote Woman is instinct. What a wonderful trait to have

Kornelia, thanks for the ideas. I only have my Associates Degree, so not sure about the teaching thing. might be worth getting my BSN, i have thought about it. i am not sure if i have "what it takes" to teach, but would be willing to consider it (and the other ideas, but was wondering if there was much money in the ACLS type teaching). I am ACLS certified, but i was never real good at passing that test! Neurology is where I have specialized. I am thinking I should make an appointment with a career counselor. I truly thank you for your suggestions, and I would definitely like to keep this discussion open. anyone else who feels like contributing, i welcome ideas/suggestions. i am not even absolutely sure i want to stay in healthcare. blessings friends.

How about being a Nurse Instructor on a local college or joining a group with people who teach CPR, ACLS,PALS and my beTNCC and ENPC? We have a local place were Nurses go all the time to get certified, you maybe able to check their website: its called Mastertrain in San Antonio,TX...check it out.
I had a fall last year at work too, when I was working as a Radiology Nurse and now I just started a job on a local college as a Nursing Instructor, you know they need people for classroom, skill Lab and clinicals in the facilities they go to and with a good mentor you can find out which area you enjoy most and/or where your expertise is most beneficial for the school...give it a try...

blessings to all who have joined & commented in this group! busy, well, not actually, but I had a temporary interruption of internet service (like several months) and it's sure good to be back. i feel blessed to be called to "heal", but i am currently not working due to a fall at work. the problems i encounter are with "traditional, or western" medicine. so many times i feel like the things i am forced to do, the orders i am obliged to follow, are harmful. i try to incorporate some teaching that is based on just supporting the body in order to let it heal itself, but it is not usually well taken. And, i have to be very careful not to give "advice" that could be misinterpreted, lest i be sued. this, for me, is the biggest challenge of being a hospital nurse. Since my back injury at work, i am considering some type of "job", so to speak, where i am in a better position to provide realistic and "natural" healing. If anyone has any ideas (other than massage therapy, since i can't be on my feet too long anymore) i would love to hear them.
