I'm attempting to make a website dedicated to women's contrabutions to the world, I'm also doing an art series on women of courage.

Could anyone name a few witch heroines for me, maybe some links and sources?

Thank you.

Are you thinking about women's contributions to the world in general or a specific theme?
Civil rights, sufferage, stuff like that., they can be from any where
I found this very interesting It was a seminar type gathering with Gloria Steinem a woman I might say I have the utmost respect for. she gave this lecture called "Scholars, Witches and Other Freedom Fighters" I love that she has termed Witches as Freedom Fighters because that is exactly what we are and what the Witches back in the day were fighting for, that where burned at the stake or Hanged, like the Salem Witches and the Pendle Hill Witches in Lancashire England. Here is the link to her speech. hope you find it as interesting as I did. It's funny because I recently bought her book "Revolution From Within" it was in the discounted books like 70% off or something. So this was kind of cool to find.
Blessed Be.

She's legandary! Thank you.
I think that the first person that comes to mind is Starhawk, She is of my favorite people and she lives what she speaks, I would recommend her for anything.
thank you, I'll look her up
I love Starhawk too. I have her book The Spiral Dance. excellent must have book.
I'd also look up bell hooks. She's a civil rights and women's rights activist/writer/speaker. I went to one of her lectures last spring and it was so inspirational. (PS She doesn't capitalize her name.)

Lucy Burns, Carrie Chapman Catt, and Alice Paul are a few American suffragettes. Iron Jawed Angels is an awesome movie! Margaret Sanger was also an amazing lady and activist for women's health care.

To name just a few good artists to look at are Mary Beth Edelson, Judy Chicago, and Kiki Smith. Also look up the contributions of the Guerrilla Girls and some of their art. You def need to look up Woman House and the Feminist Art Movement of the 1970s. Much of the early feminist work was also considered Goddess art. Many of these feminist artists used Goddess Ritual as Performance Art. Mary Beth Edelson actually sold her car so she could take a trip to a Neolithic cave site in Europe to perform a series of rituals intended to connect with our Goddess worshiping ancestors and our collective all knowing Mother.
