I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is: I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat or a prostitute. ~ Rebecca West

Our great symbol for the Goddess is the moon, whose three aspects reflect the three stages in women's lives and whose cycles of waxing and waning coincide with women's menstrual cycles.

“Two thousand years ago, we lived in a world of Gods and Goddesses. Today, we live in a world solely of Gods. Women in most cultures have been stripped of their spiritual power.”

“The symbolism of the Goddess is not a parallel structure to the symbolism of God the Father. The Goddess does not rule the world. She is the world. Manifest in each of us, She can be known internally by every indivdual, in all her magnificent diversity.”

Starhawk

“If Goddess religion is not to become mindless idiocy, we must win clear of tendency of magic to become superstition. Magic - and among its branches I include psychology as its purpose to describe and change consciousness - is an art.”

Starhawk

“Through the Goddess, we can discover our strength, enlighten our minds, own our bodies, and celebrate our emotions.”

Does anyone else have any good quotes that they have come across today or does anyone want to discuss something that they have read recently.

I agree with this tremendously. My background is all over the place, but this speaks at the heart of my love for Norse Paganism/Odnism/Asatru/Ways of the North. I believe in that partnership and beauty of men and women living together, neither more dominant than the other. I respect women to be warriors in their own right as well, when and if they choose that as a path for themselves. I'd greatly welcome a fellow follower of the North that is a woman. In fact, I would probably embrace her more so. For one, she is a woman, secondly, she stands to follow a warrior's pantheon, but I imagine also studies seidhr, knows the runes and can lead blots and sumbles. Hail to that!

Feminist and feminism are almost two ugly words these days. We've come to see it in a polarity extreme in which a woman whom is a feminist detests and disregards men and their place, and see them as only wanting women in power in all things. Now we know this is not the case, but with the great mark of liberalism maligned, it only hindered feminism in its association with it.

What do I think of it? I see women as being perfectly viable for positions of power and authority, so long as they lead successfully and don't make it a personal mission to elevate women to all standards of power and positions of authority. Then we would see for ourselves another mess, and a further destruction of the balancing of ourselves as human beings.

I respect and admire a woman who knows her self-worth and has self-respect. It shows me she is strong, and won't be dependent upon me, outside the emotional support and partnership she may want. It also means she would understand I don't have to be dependent on her, for my own emotional and physical needs, but would have a mutual relationship together in that respect.

I really enjoy your quotes dear. I hope you find more to discuss.

Hello Herr Wolf,

I am glad that you replied on the quotes as I do love them, I think that you are right about the balance and stature of women and men and I think that you have some great insight, I hope to her from you more.
““Experts in ancient Greek culture say that people back then didn’t see their thoughts as belonging to them. When ancient Greeks had a thought, it occurred to them as a god or goddess giving an order. Apollo was telling them to be brave. Athena was telling them to fall in love.

Now people hear a commercial for sour cream potato chips and rush out to buy, but now they call this free will.

At least the ancient Greeks were being honest.””

Chuck Palahniuk quotes

There is no art in turning a goddess into a witch, a virgin into a whore, but the opposite operation, to give dignity to what has been scorned, to make the degraded disireable, that calls for art or for character.”

“To be in love is merely to be in a perpetual state of anesthesia - to mistake an ordinary young man for a Greek god or an ordinary young woman for a goddess”

Henry Louis Mencken quotes

I live in Truth.
And I have my being in Truth.
I live by saying what is in my Heart.

— Ancient Egyptian inscription

Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love.
~~ Rainer Maria Rilke

Someday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, we shall harness the energy of love, and then, for the second time in the history of the world, man will discover fire.
~~ Teilhard de Chardin

Butterflies represent transformation. They evolve from a caterpillar into a beautiful, wondrous being - much like a woman finding her inner goddess; her personal power.

Well behaved women rarely make history" - Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

Women are not inherently passive or peaceful. We’re not inherently anything but human. ~ obin Morgan

When women are depressed they either eat or go shopping. Men invade another country. ~ Elayne Boosler

Nobody can make you feel inferior without your permission. ~ Eleanor Roosevelt

A natural response is to change the word feminist to a word with fewer stigmas attached. But inevitably the same thing will happen to that magical word. Part of the radical connotation of feminism is not due to the word, but to the action. The act of a woman standing up for herself is radical, whether she calls herself a feminist or not. ~ Paula Kamen, feminist

I used to go on college campuses 25 years ago and announce I was a feminist, and people thought it meant I believed in free love and was available for a quick hop in the sack. ... Now I go on college campuses and say I'm a feminist, and half of them think it means I'm a lesbian. How'd we get from there to here without passing "Go"? ~ Molly Ivins

feminist is anyone who recognizes the equality and full humanity of women and men. ~ Gloria Steinem, founder of Ms. Magazine, leader of the Women's Movement

Hail Mother Goddess for you are my fortress and I shall not fall,I shall not fail,I shall not be walked upon and I shall not parish, because with you I live forever and am lifted up in my spirit and am reborn to live another life in your name. (Kim Ferguson)

I can definately identify with this quote. I don't know what feminism really is either, I've never been called one since the people I deal with attempt to be a lot more vulgar but I know it's usually a resault of me reacting to being trod on. I never understood why it's considered "unladylike" for a woman to stand up for herself and others but it's expected of men I mean it's not like prince charming is going to rescue us, the most charming ones are usually the ones hunting women(and some guys)

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

When a man becomes familiar with his goddess, she quickly sinks into a woman”

Joseph Addison quotes

Here is one that I have on my calender that I really like "If you always do what interests you, at least one person is pleased"

(Katharine Hepburn) "Getting in touch with your inner bitch Calender" 2009

“Call it "womb awe" or even "womb worship" but it's not simple envy. I don't remember even wanting to be a woman. But each of the three times I have been present at the birth of one of my children, I have been overwhelmed by a sense of reverence... It was quite suddenly, the first day of creation; the Goddess giving birth to a world... Like men since the beginning of time I wondered: What can I ever create that will equal the magnificence of this new life?”
