Right now our SL group is just for coordinating the (as yet theoretical) volunteer force (we're hoping to have 24/7 "staffing" at the center ... just folks there to engage with visitors, answer questions, direct them to info resources, etc.) which will be a fairly substantial undertaking (that's 168 one-hour slots to fill in a week!).
We've been trying to have the "group functions" focus HERE as this will provide more connection with WSI and the resources on the Ning site.
Frankly, one of the reasons for doing this is the 25 group limit in Second Life ... as any long-time resident will vouch, this is a very constricting limit ... and not saddling users with yet another group (some folks like Orange Island have a "robot" that you can friend and it will IM out messages about events ... which we looked into too).
I'd be willing to listen to arguments FOR starting a "general interest" WSI group in-world, however.
hello all...since the number of groiup members is limited, how about just having several WSI groups? each group could have their our group name (i.e. Fairy Clan, Elven Clan, John' Group, etc.)...each group having a group leader who will keep the others posted as to whatever might b going on in SL for WSI such as meetings, classes, or mayb just to get together for like a study group...i hope this idea doesn't sound lame...lol...after i read what i wrote, for some reason LOTR came to mind...lol..."Fellow ship of the Ring"...lol
