Brief Introduction

I've written a very comprehensive blog entry about the spiritual journey that has led me to where I am today in my studies and my spiritual development, but just to add some additional information that's off the spiritual topic, I'd say that my first and foremost description of myself would be sci-fi/fantasy geek, followed closely by anthropology and language geek, feminist, and activist.

What Didn't I Say in My Blog?

I'm easily at home in the middle of a forest or standing waist-deep in the ocean waves, and I am given great strength by the shining sun during the day and the silver moon at night. The sound of the birds singing in the mornings or the crickets chirping at night is a beautiful symphony to me, and the morning mist rising over the mountains of the Peak District where I live is like the Goddess herself rising from the earth to greet me. Have you ever stood waist-deep in the sea as the full moon rose to one side of you and the blazing sun set on the other, seemingly frozen parallel in the sky with one another, a time truly in between night and day, the ancient rhythms of the sea surrounding you, the magic of the moment caught forever in your memory, recorded in your head and in your heart? That is the magic of the Goddess in action, primordial and immanent.

How I Might Like to Merge My Career With My Spirituality

I am an anthropologist (well, a PhD student currently writing my dissertation/thesis), and my area of specialization is how heritage tourism affects local lives and local identities in the areas where it takes place. I've been thinking of applying the same sort of study methods I used in my PhD research to a Pagan context, researching the impact of Pagan tourism in the very Pagan-identified towns of Glastonbury, England, and Salem, Massachusetts, if I can get any funding to do this research anyway.

That's about all I can think of to write at the moment, but I may add more later. Thanks!

I arrived late to the conference, but once I arrived, I attended two workshop talks, the keynote speech, and the concert at the end. The workshops I attended included a wandmaking workshop by a man named Chris, a talk on “The Dark Side of the Craft” by Rhys Chisnall, the keynote speech on “Lineage” by Janet Farrar and Gavin Bone, and the concert was a performance by Damh the Bard. My notes from these are as follows:

The Dangers of Coming Out of the Broom Closet (and the Closet Closet) [personal rant]

Let me preface this by saying, first and foremost, that my brother-in-law has always been a disagreeable excuse for a human being, and my being honest about who I am just gives him more fuel for what was already a pretty strong fire to begin with. You see, he doesn't like me, and I don't like him. The first time I ever met him, I was doing a focus group as part of a school project (a Master's degree level class in Social Work with people with HIV/AIDS) and had put some chairs into a circle so… Continue

My Spiritual Journey

I was born in Jacksonville, Florida in the mid 1970s, a place where a large Baptist mega-church plays a dominant role in local politics, and where, just twenty years earlier, a strong vein of anti-Semitism was evidenced in signs in storefronts that said things like “No Dogs or Jews Allowed”. Not that I was Jewish, no, my family were predominantly Baptist, with a small number of exceptions – an atheist grandfather, two Catholic great-grandparents, and a handful of Methodists, and then in the… Continue

I love just standing in the woods behind my house. There is a small creek there. I will just get lost. It is the most relaxed I ever feel, when I am there. :)

"The guy sounds like a right prat... Sorry you have to go through this, its a shame that you have to have him as a part of your life. Sad thing is , until your sister finally moves away from him, hes still going to be a thorn in your side.."
