Blessed Imbolc!
I’ve got the perfect ritual planned to share with my son this year. Alex is almost five years old and it’s a big step to begin to include him in rituals. Of course, I’m gearing everything toward his level, so not to overwhelm him.
This is his second year of religious education (Sunday school) at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation. We started going when we moved to the area. The reason why I love going to UU and having him participate in RE, is that he is exposed to all different religious traditions. I’ve gotten to teach some of the classes which included Sacred Places where I showed them a picture of my altar and some of the items that sit there. As we build the sense of a spiritual community we are now beginning to build our personal family spiritual practice.
As I look back on the first month of the year, I wonder how I’m doing with the goals I set myself for the year. Although it’s good to review, I want to remember that everything I do or don’t do is a choice. January began with such vigor that I thought I could conquer the world. Then I got sick and spent the majority of the month trying to regain my health. I’m feeling much better now, but still have a very runny nose.
My desire to read and write more is making slow progress. I got some nice gardening books that I’ve read through as I plan out this year’s garden. As far as writing goes, I’ve managed to blog almost once a week. Even if I haven’t done as much as I would like, I’m doing something.
I was singing more and am beginning to do so again. The horrible cough I had for weeks prevented me from singing at all. Alex started to request good night songs, which took an abrupt halt when I just couldn’t manage it. We’re back into the routine and it’s a special treat to get to sing to my little boy. My husband feels it’s a special treat to listen also. I’m so lucky to have such fans.
I’ve missed three weeks of kickboxing classes due to feeling so sick. Hopefully tonight I’ll get to class for the first time in a while. I’ve managed to run twice this week with the unseasonable warm weather we’ve had. I’m definitely on the mend health wise.
I have enjoy my crafts as a goal for this year. To me this means finding time to do things I love like draw and sew and crochet. I’ve managed to do just that while relaxing with my family in the evenings.
Playing games is on my list because sometimes the idea of playing a board game with my husband feels like an exercise in learning how to lose gracefully. Still, I’m trying to stay open to the idea of maybe liking some of the games that Lee loves. I’ve even played a game which I don’t like with the open mind of maybe I will like it if I give it another try. I didn’t. Still, it’s good to make time to play games and have fun.
Overall, I think that January has been quite successful. I look forward to what February will have in store as well as the rest of the year. Blessed be!
